Opening encrypted .tib archive in Win8.1Pro explorer hangs. Only unencrypted archives open.

Thread needs solution

Hi,

currently trying out Acronis TIH 2015 (build 6525).
When I open a encrypted (AES256) .tib archive the pop-up for password shows. After entering the passphrase the pop-up shrinks in size and the explorer progress bar slowly fills up. Unfortunately the explorer window gets unresponsive and needs to be killed with the task manager.
It doesn't matter if the archive is big (whole disk) or small (just an nearly empty file backup folder) or if it's local or network share located.

However... Backups that are unencrypted, can be openend in explorer. In good old TIH 2011 it did not matter if encrypted or not.

It's possible to open the backup file in the Acronis GUI, too.

Browsing archive files was always important for me. And encryption is obligatory. Does anyone succeed in opening encrypted files with Win8.1pro in explorer or is this a bug?

Cheers,
Michael

Hello Michael,

the situation when your encrypted backups cannot be opened while Acronis True Image 2015 is installed is definitely not a designed behavior but there are no known issues which would match the description.

Please contact our support team so that they could help you to investigate the problem.

Thank you.

Hi, thanks for checking.

Meanwhile I deinstalled Norton Internet Security 2015 after the trial period (was preinstalled on a new Lenovo Ideapad Yoga) and replaced it with Avira Free Antivirus and suddenly I was able to open previously created .tib files (on a NAS share) in explorer that I couldn't open before.

I cannot tell for sure if the virus scanner suite was the root cause, however the problem is solved for me and no further support is needed.
As this is resolved, TIH2015 hence is usable for me and worth the upgrade after trial.
I'm curious to see, if NIS2015 was somewhat related to issues during Win8.1pro shutdowns being stuck in "operations in progress" that was mentioned in another post recently. - Hope that this also vanishes by switching the scanner. I'll give feedback if i notice some improvement or something the next days/weeks.
Hope issues with large images for Bitlocker drives that I've read about are solved by some update soon to avoid filling up my backup NAS needlessly in future.

Cheers,
Michael
