Freeagent drives OK?

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

Just a quick question:

I just picked up a 500GB Seegate Freeagent drive for holding images. I was reading Grover's guide and it states that the external drive containing the image must be connected and powered on before booting to the boot media CD. If I'm not mistaken, the USB power to the Freeagent drive doesn't kick in until the boot sequence has started. Is that not so? Will a freeagent drive work OK?

Thanks.

Dan:

I have two of these drives that I use without issue. Usually when you boot the PC its BIOS will scan for disks, and that will cause the FreeAgent drive to spin up.

You can do a simple test to verify that the drive will work in the Acronis recovery environment. Connect the disk to your PC, insert the TI recovery CD into an optical drive, then reboot the PC into the Acronis recovery environment. Go through the first few steps of the backup wizard to verify that you can see both your internal and your external disks. If so, you're good to go.
