I want to get the backup from my old computer (Windows XP) to my new computer (Windows 7). I want to get all my settings, programs, files, email ect to the new computer not the operating system. I use “Choose My Computer” parameter for my old computer (XP). What restore options do I use? How do I do this?

You cannot just copy programs and settings to the new Windows 7 operating system. Application programs have to be installed using its installation routine in Windows in order to write various configuration settings to the registry and to setup configuration files in the proper place.

The easiest way to copy email is to use the email program's export facility and then import them into the new mail program. This assumes your 2 mail programs do this.

Your data files such as photos, documents, videos, music can just be copied from one machine to another by whatever method is handy such as networking the 2 machines or writing them to an external USB drive and then putting it on the new machine.

If you have a TI backup, you can open the backup with TI and copy the files out of the archive. Note that TI2010 is the version that is supported on Windows 7.
