TIH 2010 Build 7046: insufficient privileges to access SnapAPI folder

Thread needs solution

Just tried updating to build 7046 and the installation fails, saying:

'The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\SnapAPI. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator on contact your system administrator.'

But I'm already logged on as an administrator! I can't even access the above folder in Windows Explorer - access is denied.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks
Steven

Have you tried selecting Run as Administrator?

Are you running from the real Admin account (disabled in W7 by default), or the account that gives you Admin privileges? There is a subtle difference, having said that, the latter one should work.

Is it just the SnapAPI folder that you can't access or the complete Common files/Acronis tree?

If you are able to right click on the SnalAPI folder, how many users and groups have access to it and what permissions do they get?

What other programs do you have running in the background?

Do you get access in Windows Safe Mode?

Is this your PC or a work issued one that might have had policies enabled on it.

I assume you didn't have this problem with the original TI install.

What version of TI are you upgrading from and what Os are you running?

Thanks for the reply, sorry for the lack of info in my first post! It's my PC, Windows XP SP3 and I'm just installing the latest build on top of build 6053.

I've managed to update it now anyway - 3rd time lucky! I rebooted and was then able to access the SnapAPI folder. I ran the installation program again and it ended up freezing Explorer completely at around 100% so I had to hard reset after around 10 minutes of waiting around! After the reboot I ran the setup program again and it finally completely successfully.

Very strange behaviour though!

Thanks,
Steven
