Installing backup to new installation of Windows XP

Thread needs solution

I have a drive which I am pretty sure is failing as it has started to squeak when being accessed.
I have only just recently reinstalled windows and all my programs which took ages.
Would I be better to clone the drive to a new hard drive, or can I install Windows on the new drive then use my recent backup?
Which method would be better?

Hello Vicki,

Let me help you.

If you've already created a full backup of your system it will be more reliable just to restore it to your new hard drive.

Here's a description of what you need to do in a few words:

  1. Create Acronis Bootable Media. Check the Chapter 15 of the User's Guide on how to do that.
  2. Boot off your computer using the created CD and restore your archive.

As a result, you'll have a fully workable Windows with all programs already installed.

Please reply to this thread if you have any questions.

Thank you.
