SecuROM sends Acronis TI File Backup into a death spiral
I contacted support about this issue already, but they didn't seem particularly interested in finding or fixing the root cause of this bug, so I figured I'd leave this here in case someone who can fix it might see it.
I've been using TI 2015 (Build 6525) for the past month to do incremental backups of various folders on my system, including C:\Users\rich\AppData\Roaming. Over the past few days, these backups have been hanging. The files that are causing the hang are:
- C:\Users\rich\AppData\Roaming\SecuROM\UserData\ЃϵϳЅЂϿϽϯІχϯπρϴϱЄϱЃϵϳЅ
- C:\Users\rich\AppData\Roaming\SecuROM\UserData\ЃϵϳЅЂϿϽϯІχϯπρЂϻϵЉЃϵϳЅ
If the backup is scheduled, I get a red icon in systray saying that I need to make a decision about a file. Clicking on this icon takes me to the TI interface but doesn't actually give me the option to make a decision. The backup hangs and I'm unable to do anything with TI until I reboot my computer.
If I run the backup manually, I get an error message and the option to ignore or retry the file. Regardless of what I choose, the backup hangs and I'm unable to do anything with TI until I reboot my computer.
This seems like a bug. I understand that there are going to be some weird system files TI can't backup, but it should always be able to ignore these files and continue. Hopefully you're able to find out the root cause of this hang (and the broken systray icon) and fix it.
Thanks,
Rich
