HardDisc Getting Full, found MYbackup copy on C Taking 1/3 space. How Can I delete? Program will not let me delete, protected ?

Thread needs solution

When I started with Acronis 10 just over year ago, I backed up to c drive. Then I decided to backup to F drive. Now my C drive is getting critically full. Found MyBackup hogging 1/3 of Cdrive which is only 80GB. Tried everything to delete but denied access. Changed attributes, failed. checked forum, could not figure out how to post till this space popped up. Don't know if I can gett answer even so my email is frankhoriuchi@yahoo.com if you can help me. My support time has expired in Feb. So I am stuck. Thanks in advance.

Please help me delete c Drive MyBackup as it denies access or says it is protected or in use. Will not let me change attributes even after I uncheck Read Only.

If you restart your computer, you should be able to:
- (preferred) if you can see the backup from within ATI, delete it from there,
- using windows explorer, delete the file manually.

If you cannot delete the file manually after a reboot, let us know.

I want to release space on my external drive. When I try to delete it in Windows Explorer it says action can't be completed because the folder is open in COM Surrogate. When I did a search for that phrase I read that I have to delete it in Acronis True Image Home.

Ok, so I go to the help in True Image 2012 and it says to "Find the corresponding backup box on the Backup and recovery tab of Acronis True Image Home 2012. Click the gear icon to open the Operations menu and then click Delete."

So... I click on the Backup and recovery tab. There is nothing showing in that Window. When I click the gear there is no option to Delete.

So my next thought is to call Customer Support. But when I search for a phone number I find that there is only free support for 30 days! So that's why I'm entering my problem here. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Joe

I assume you are talking about normal *.tib backup files and NOT backup files created by Non-stop online backup.

If select the task which created the backups, here is what you should see.
Right click on the files along the bottom row for optioons to delete.

Figure 21- Task Data (Explore & Recover)

Figure 22: Task Explore & Recover View    Plus File DetailsIt is this screen where individual backup files can be deleted from the existing task without deleting the task. Deletion of incremental backups will spoil the backup chain..

I want to delete My_system.tib, My_system2.tib, and My_system3.tib.

When I go to Backup and recovery it is blank.

From within the TrueImage top menu, click on the Browse for Backups options and locate the 3 files. Once you find them, there should be an option there to add files to backup list.

This will cause an new entry onto your Backup lists page . Follow the same steps inside the new listing for deletion as described in prior post.

I clicked on Browse for Backups, found the files and clicked Add to backups for each one.

I'm sorry for being so ignorant, but where is the Backup lists page.

The listing should be showing on the main page of True image
and would appear like on your snap31 screen capture.

Let's do the heavy lifting this way.
Download unlocker and install
http://download.cnet.com/Unlocker/3000-2248_4-10493998.html

AFter installing unlocker,

RIGHT click on each *.tib file and choose the unlocker entry on the right click menu and delete the 3 files using unlocker.

Thank you. I was able to delete the old backups. Now I am running a new backup of my C: drive. Which leads me to another question. Why isn't there any indication that the backup is running? The only way I know its running is because the external disk drive is blinking. I don't like this new version of True Image. I have been using True Image since version 8, and I used to load it on other people's computers, but now it is too complicated to use.

Joseph,
Yes, the hardware is getting more complicated and this is translating into the backup software. The new Windows 8 is bringing a whole new set of backup issues for both users and technicians.

You do not indicate which version of Windows you are using. Have you looked at your disk from inside the Windows Disk Management Graphical view? This view will show a layout of your partitions and you may find you have some non-lettered partitions or recovery partitions which need to be included within your backup--especially if running Windows 7. Your backup of C only may be incomplete if you wish to be able to create a replacement disk sometime in the future. The link below shows how to include all partitions within your desktop when using 2012 or 2013.

You may also find item #2 inside my signature below of interest in understanding the new software. Particularly the figures 11-Full; 11-Inc; 11-Dif--all of which illustrate how to create backups which will perform their own cleanup so you can avoid a full disk situation. TI always creates a replacement backup before deleting the old backup so you always need to allow the extra space for one extra backup.

I was running True Image Home 2012 on my Window 7 64 bit machine. I was never getting my backups listed in the Backup and Recovery tab. I think this is why I found TIH 2012 so hard to use.

I thought maybe I needed to upgrade to the latest version since searching online I saw that I didn't have the latest version of 2012. So I spent a lot of time uninstalling and re-installing to the latest version. But it didn't help. My backups didn't show, even if i did a Browse for Backups, Add to Backup List. Even if I did a new backup, it didn't show.

So I have uninstalled 2012 and went back to TIH 2011. Now everthing is showing and it lets me delete prior backups and its working fine. I did switch to disk mode as recommended in a prior comment.

Joseph,
I believe your issue to be an option setting on tasks being deliberately hidden--so only designated tasks show. I don't recall the setting and will attempt to look it up. Maybe someone recalls where this option is located within the tasks.

Did you have version 2012 installed for "all users"?

I cannot find a post to address my question. I have DisK Director 11 Home which has never worked properly. I have tried to Uninstall the program to free hard drive space but the Uninstall is not working thru my Control Panel Screen via Windows 8.1. It is the only Uninstall program issue I have experienced. Suggestions? thanks

Wes,
Which version of True Image Home are you referring to? Only TrueImage Home versions 2014 and 2015 are compatible with Win 8.1.

A cleanup version is available but be aware that will also uninstall Disk Director.

Also note that Disk Director 11 does NOT support Windows 8 or 8.1

I was not aware Disk Director does not support Windows 8 or 8.1. I want to uninstall the program as it never worked and I wish to delete from my hard drive. Each time I try the Uninstall prompt though, nothing happens.
