Acronis boot loader - sconched my machine

Thread needs solution

I have had True Image 2012 working for a long time on my machine.

I installed a 2014 OEM version and tried to do a disk clone.
The Acronis boot loader starts but has a bunch of garbage after it (I cannot capture the screen but could probably take apicture).

How do I recover from this -- how do I stop the boot loader from intercepting the boot?

Hi Linda,
Not sure I understand your question. Have you enabled ASR? Acronis Start up and Recovery Manager.

Installing the product does not modify the start up or boot of your machine, unless you tell it to do so. Using ASR and/or the Acronis Secure Zone is not usually a good idea unless you frequently need to revert your machine to a known stable state or previous date in time. An example where this might be beneficial is for someone who tests software.

Additionally, saving back up images to the disk you are trying to protect is also not recommended since you will lose your back ups if the disk fails or becomes inaccessible. Of course there are exceptions in both cases, but in general saving your back ups to a different storage location is a good idea. We are happy to answer more questions and provide advice, but first help us understand your issue.

ASR - Acronis Start Up & Recovery Manager Boot Utility accessed by pressing F11 at boot time (feature must be enabled manually by you) << This would run at boot time.
ASZ - Acronis Secure Zone - Protected space on your drive where you can store back ups (space allocated by you when this feature is enabled)

I am not sure ASR was enabled or could be enabled in this OEM version of ATI 2014. In any case, uninstalling it fixed the problem.

I was trying to clone a disk from the ATI software -- which I had done successfully many times with ATI 2012. It does a reboot and starts "Acronis boot loader" (in case you've never done it). At this point some garbage showed across the screen and nothing happened -- it didn't go on as usual to the Acronis loading.

I don't use backup.
