Backing up a backup

Thread needs solution

After a fresh install of Windows 7 and all updates, etc, i made a backup of my hard drive to a USB drive, so that I can later reinstall Windows later if needed. I only made one backup for this purpose. What I'd like to do is copy/paste this file to another portable HD, and if needed (if the original USB drive fails, or is lost or physically damaged) I'd hope to assign the drive letter and path of the first USB drive backup to the second USB drive and then be able to recover the backup. Would this work, or are there things going on that I don't know about, (or both)? Had I thought this out when I made the original backup I'd have made a second backup, but at the time I didn't know much about backup strategies.

For a restore, it does not matter what drive letter is in use on the storage disk. For a restore, you simply browse to the wherever storage location and select the target tib file for restore. It will be up to you to find it via the browse. The TI program will not do that for you. You must find the tib file wherever it is that you want restored and the TI CD is the vehicle to make that restore.

A first step would be to boot into the TI Recovery CD and have the CD perform a validation of the original backup.

If it passes, you can use any of several methods to make a copy onto a new location. This is done outside of TrueImage.

You can use Windows or special copy programs such as REPLICATOR.
The important thing is to get a good copy and special programs seem to do this better than the normal Windows copy function.

Well, that's good news. I was expecting it to be more troublesome than that. Also, I did not know that the Windows Copy function does not always function as it should. I'll look at the REPLICATOR as another option.
Thanks.

I use ATI 2012. There is a "Backup reserve copy" option under the Advance file backup options. Checking this box and giving it a path will make a reserve copy of the backup file. If you use incremental backups it will create one tib file which will contain all the incrementals. It does not look like there is an option to only keep a certain number of files though so you might need to clean it up often.

Each backup created by the "reserve copy" will be a new FULL backup of the computer status at time of backup.  User must do their own cleanup on how many and which of the reserve copies are to be kept or deleted.
