Acronis True Image 2014 not working on Windows 10 Home
Hi,
I recently updated my computer to Windows 10 Home. However, just after activation I had some serious issues with the OS. After searching for hours for the origin of these issues, I just found out that my version of Acronis True Image (2014) wasn't working. I had to remove it from my computer.
However, I've just realized that Acronis True Image 2014 isn't supported anymore. That means I just have a program that doesn't work on my new OS, and if I want it to work I have to upgrade to the latest version, and obviously to pay. Isn't it possible to have a Windows 10-compatible version of Acronis True Image 2014?

There are reports of some folks having TI 2014 working on Windows 10 and also some nto having it working. Acronis official position is TI 2015 or TI 2016 are support on Win 10.

thomasjk,
Good to hear that some are having no problems with ATIH 2014 on Windows 10. I hope to be one of them if and when I upgrade to Win 10 :)
As for upgrading to ATIH 2015 or 2016 for Windows 10 - that it isn't going to happen for me. I will move to another backup/imaging program.
Acronis lost my business of any future upgrades when they took "Try & Decide" out of the program starting with ATIH 2015.
Someone on another forum told me "well - all you have to do is go back to a previous image if you have problems or want to try out different software programs".
Seeing how I have tried out thousands of different software programs and only liked 1% of them - with "Try & Decide" I could check out a program for a while and see if I liked it. If not - just a quick reboot of my PC and back in business in about 1 minute.
Whereas with a FULL IMAGE backup which is the only kind I do - it would take me more than an hour to recover an image just for trying out 1 new software for a few minutes. Without Try & Decide it would have taken me literally THOUSANDS of hours to try out the thousands of different software programs - whereas with Try & Decide it took me approximately 30 to 40 hours (instead of thousands of hours).
Acronis - PLEASE bring back the Try & Decide feature - or at least come out with a totally seperate program that allows a person to do a Try & Decide for software testing. Microsoft's "Restore Point" just ddoesn't cut it. Try & Decide was a TOTAL winner!!!

Try and Decide is included in TI 2016.

thomasjk,
wow - thanks for the great news that Try & Decide is back in ATIH 2016.
Perhaps enough people complained about it being taken out in ATIH 2015
that they put it back in ATIH 2016.
I'll have to check it out.

thomasjk,
I just verified that "Try & Decide" is in fact - in ATI 2016.
Found info about it at the bottom of page 124 thru page 128 of the ATI 2016 User Manual (PDF).
Looks like I will be upgrading after all in the not so distant future.
Again, thomasjk, thanks for making me aware of this feature being brought back to life!!!

Hi,
Thank you Rickmon and thomasjk for your answers. Then I'll have to wait for Windows to fix bugs and issues. For me there's no way I can go back to Windows 8.1. I hate this OS and I just wanted to upgrade to Windows 10 from the moment I started to use it. I prefer to have an imperfect OS but practical and useful from my point of view.
Thanks again.

Frank,
What model SSD are you using?

Waiting for bugs to be fixed in new versions of Acronis is also wisdom (or, perhaps better put, waiting to see if the bugs are acknowledged and/or fixed).
As far as windows 10, I've had ATI 2014 working fine on win 10 (in test machines, both imaging and restoring). Also, it may be worth noting that even if you can't get 2014 working in win 10, you should have no problems using the rescue disk for both imaging and restoring in any version of windows.

Hi,
@Joey: MI SSD is a Crucial MX100 512GB
@Andros Astonin: ok, thanks for the answer.

Franck,
Your SSD is the root cause of your issues.

I see now 2016 is available. I also see I only got a months' support with my 2015 purchase, and I'm not eligible for an upgrade to 2016.
This sucks, especially considering now my product is unusable since I upgraded to windows 10 (crucial ssd bug?) and not getting any response to my posts or PMs.Starting to think I wasted my money and should seek other solutions.

There seem to be many reported cases of Crucial MX100/200 drives hanging, whether or not acronis is installed. Mine is still doing it, it seems to be something triggered by the backup process (maybe a bug in win8.1+'s volume shadow copy?) or AHCI driver or something.
I am going to throw this POS crucial away and get a samsung.

Hi Joey,
Sorry for not answering before. Thank you very much for your help. If it wasn't for these posts, I'd never believe my SSD is the cause of the issue, especially when it worked well under Windows 8.1 but not under Windows 10, and it works well under Windows 10 without ATI2014. The problem I had was exactly the one mentioned in one of the posts.
Anyway, I will have to update my drivers.
Thanks again for your help.

I have Acronis TI 2014 installed on my computer with win 10 installed. My backups are working fine when I perform a backup.
My question is if I have to recover for some reason will I be able to use the 2014 backups on win 10?
just wondering if it's necessary to buy ATI 2016 when all backups from 2014 are being done properly?
thanks

Ti 2014 is not supported by Acronis on Windows 10. You may or may not have issues restoring. Have you validated your backups? Have you tried a restore by booting from the rescue media? Updates to Windows 10 could possibly cause it to not work properly. There are reports on this forum where it works for some but not for others. How important is the data you are backing up? Is it easily replaceable by reinstalling the software? Only you can decide how important the backups are.

Dorothy,
Since you are using ATI 2014, you will qualify for upgrade pricing. Approximately 4 months ago, I upgraded from a single license of ATI 2014 home to a 3 license package of ATI 2016 for $39 (that price may or may not be available now). If you decide to upgrade, you should log into your Acronis account and purchase the upgrade there. Also, Acronis have an excellent return policy if you decide that ATI 2016 is not right for you.
Regards,
FtrPilot
Update: The current price for a 3 license package upgrade is $59. However Acronis are running a special which includes 1 free license. I don't know if this applies to upgrades.

I got an email today from Acronis that as a long time customer, buy one copy of 2016 and get another free. I bought a new Dell laptop with Windows 10, it's just okay with a lot of privacy issues that need turned off and there is one you can't turn off unless you have the enterprise edition. I put Macirum Reflect on the Dell and did an image, deleted some files and did a complete restore, it worked fine. Also tested turininh the Macrium backup into a VHD and that worked as well as restoring one file while browsing the backup (not vHD).
Windows 7 is supported until 2020 and I see nothing that great in Windows 10 except giving up security and sending info to MS. So I may just wait until this Dell OPtiples dies or close to 2020 and order another from Dell with enterprise edition. I have used Acronis since v7 and like it, but each new version seems to have issues to get through. Also, surprised how fast and well this free Macrium works!!
Then I find it odd that Acronis 2013 won't rin, it should, it is just copying data and that seems to be the only software my scan says is a problem.
I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, when going to Windows 10 I would lose my media center programs and DVD player, I actually do a lot of editing video with them.
New computers have a BIOS issue that makes it a pain to boot from a USB or DVD, but it can be done.
