Backup hangs unless I disable MS VSS services...

Thread needs solution

I get a few ASR Writer Failed errors with a hanging backup unless I disable MS VSS services before starting the backup.

I have tried most all of the VSS fixes out there with no changes in freezing backups.

This isn't too critical to me since I don't use the scheduler to perform backups, but it would be nice to see it work as designed.

This is unusual. I would uninstall Acronis True Image. Reboot, and reinstall. If you had other versions of ATI installed or some other sofware that might use VSS, I would try to uninstall them, either with the ACronis Cleanup Utility, or their own installer tool.

I will try this next weekend..  I have done this a couple of times so I don't know if I will see any difference... but I am out of town for a week so I'll try again when I get back.

Thanks for your advice.

The ASR errors and the hung backups might be linked to the corruption of the file system information as well, or even to disk issues. Another thing to do is to run a disk check utility on each partition of the disk. For Windows NTFS volumes, using chkdsk /r or the builtin disk checking tool should be enough.

Sometimes stopping VSS and restarting it can correct the problem as well
