Restore with or without losing hidden OEM partition

Thread needs solution

Hi all,
Since i'm new to using ATI2010 i'm wondering if: when i make a bootable system backup on DVD, when i have to restore my backup using this DVD will i loose the OEM hidden recovery partition or will it also be resored and still function with F-key during post?
I'm really interested in using ATI2010 on my Acer Laptop, however Acer included a hidden recovery partition that can be accessed during post with pressing Alt-F10. Before i will start playing around i really wanna know if i will loose this feature from Acer after a full restore with ATI2010.

Second question: When i setup a Acronis Secure Zone together with Boot manager, will i be able to uninstall ATI2010 from the system without loosing the Secure Zone with Bootmanager or does ATI2010 always needs to reside on the system to make the bootmanger to work and being able to restore from the Secure Zone?

Thanks.

Hello,
I can answer most of you questions, However..... you should always include what "OS" you are using and the build of Acronis as well. When you make a "Recovery Disk" you run it at boot time then you have the "options" as to what you want to do( back up, recover , clone , etc.) You will not loose your hidden data partition if you just back up or restore your "OS" ....drive C: You choose this as an selectable option when Acronis runs ,either from the recovery disk or run from Windows. If you install "Recovery Manager" on my " OS" you "hit " F-11 at boot time , this will enter you into Acronis just like running the "Recovery Disk" On my system i had a recovery partition as well, it was labeled "D:" I have since deleted it and use Acronis for all my backups . If you remove TI from your system the times that i have done this i was always asked (pop up) if i wanted to remove the "SZ" or not ....so your choice. I use EasyBCD as a boot manager as i "Quint Boot" different OS's ... so for me it doesn't matter if TI is installed or not .... only if you want to use your backups , in the "SZ" or where ever you have them, then you have to have TI installed....Regards Fred

Hi,
Thank you for the explanation.
I was using Vista Home Premium (Pre-installed) but recently upgraded to windows 7 home premium. The ATI is build 7046 latest version.
Because my laptop already includes the OEM recovery partition to recover Vista i also wanna make a backup of my newly upgraded windows 7.
Because i read that ATI rewrites the partitions when you recover i'm affraid that it will also destroy this OEM partition.
As i understand correctly, when i make a system partition backup (C:) then i can recover this OS partition back to C: without losing the other partitions, including the hidden OEM? It also doesn't rewrite the MBR so my original Alt+F10 key to recover Vista will still work right?

Second, if i would make a whole Disk backup (including all partitions) will it also backup the original MBR, so that after the revovery of this Disk backup i can use the Alt+F10 key again to recover the original Vista OS?

By the way i found out that if i boot with ATI recovery CD and wanna make a disk backup to CD/DVD i cannot include ATI bootable media option like i can do when making the backup from within running windows. Is this normal?

I usually recommend creating at least one Entire Disk Image backup (check the Disk # checkbox). This includes everything so the drive can be completely restored back to that state.

You should be able to backup just the OS partition and restore that partition without causing problems. However, the only sure way to know is to try it.

If you activate the ASRM for TI, the MBR will be overwritten with Acronis code. You may lose the F10 option.

I think the option to place TI on CD/DVD media is only available in the Windows version.
