Acronis True Image 8 Rescue CD + Windows 7 compatibility

Thread needs solution

Hello all. I'm wondering if anyone has tried to image a Windows 7 (Ultimate, 64-bit - not sure if this makes a difference based on my question) machine using an Acronis True Image 8 Rescue CD? I settled on the last version of ATI 8 and made a rescue CD off of that version, which has worked just about flawlessly on all of my Windows XP machines. I dare say that out of nearly 2 dozen images created and restored using that rescue CD, I have yet to come across a failed restore.

I am thinking about finally making the plunge to Windows 7 on a new machine and am wondering if anyone has tried using the rescue CD version of ATI 8 on any new (year 2010) models successfully.

I plan on making a disk image of the new machine straight out of the box before attempting to use and install anything else on it. While I realize most new machines do come with their own restore CDs/DVDs, I am hesitant to rely on one form of backup (i.e. what if the restore disc is corrupted or damaged).

I am also hoping to avoid having to directly install ATI directly on the laptop, preferring to work strictly off of the rescue CD.

Any gotchas or problems encountered using this combination?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Hello Anthony,

Let me shed some light on your concern.

We do not recommend you to use a bootable media created with Acronis True Image 8.0 with Windows 7. The thing is that most likely it won't be able to create a correct alignment on the new drive if you're going to restore. This may prevent Windows from booting after the restoration.

I may suggest you to have a look at Acronis True Image 2010 that is fully compatible with Windows 7. You can download the trial version of that new software in order to check how it works on your new PC. The functional limitation of Acronis True Image trial version is that you can only restore and validate an image when you run the program from the bootable media. Windows version is functional for 15 days only and it does not have any more limitations.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.
