New external hard drive

Thread needs solution

I bought Acronis True Image Home 2010 and a short while later my external hard drive died, RIP. The new Hitachi hard drive already has backup software on it but only document backup, not mirror image. Do I have to delete this or can I run the Acronis with it still there, I wanted to run the non stop backup?
Thanks

As long as the new drive is a valid volume for your PC, Acronis shouldn't care what software, files or folders are already on the drive. All Acronis will do is create new files that contain your non-stop backup images. However, it is usually best practice to do a format of a new drive to not only verify its integrity but to wipe clean any of the "free" software that has been preloaded. I usually do a full format on new drives initially and then quick formats after that (if needed).

I would also make sure the file format on the new drive is NTFS. If it is FAT32, I would make the change to NTFS.

An NTFS system will allow for large files whereas a FAT32 system will break the tib backup file into 4 GB segments.

Good point! I do that as well but forgot to mention NTFS in my original post.
