Attempting to restore backup image to VirtualBox not working...

Thread needs solution

I'm attempting to restore a backup image given to me by a client for the purpose of troubleshooting an issue. Going through the recovery wizard I get to 'Settings of Partition C' and under 'Partition Location' it says, 'Not selected'. I click on 'New Location' and choose the only available location 'NTFS (Unlabeled)(C:)' and click Accept, it still shows as not selected. How do I correct this?

  2. Screenshot of the issue (process of browsing the target location)

After that please kindly contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

I load an instance of VirtualBox, booting using the Acronis Bootable Recovery Disc, select Recover, place the disc 2 of 2 of the backup archive sent to me from my client, Browse for backup, select the archive from the mounted CD drive, highlight archive and click Disk Recovery. Next I select Recover whole disks and partitions and check Use Acronis Universal Restore, under What to Recover I check Disk 1 and click Next. Under Settings of Partition C, under Partition Location (required) it says Not Selected. So I click on New location and select NTFS (Unlabeled)(C:) and click accept. This is as far as I have been able to get.

Attached is a screen shot of where I am stuck at.

Hi Philip.
Despite being a fan of Virtualbox, I must admit that in this situation Vmware workstation is of great help.
You can convert an Acronis backup into a virtual machine in no time, without having to go trough the recovery process. Just follow the Vmware wizard.

Regards

Thanks for the suggestion Hyphen Italia. I ended up recovering this backup to a physical workstation that was not in use. Worked just fine. It would still be nice to know why it would not work on VirtualBox.

OK, so I figured out the problem. Once I copied all the files of the split archive (in this case 2) to the same location I was able to complete the restore within VirtualBox. Who would have known it could be something so simple.
