Acronis can't find my backups

Thread needs solution

I unplug the backup drive after each backup and have trouble on the next backup especially when the drive number changes.  Today I believe the drive number is the same as for the last operation, but the interface comes up with big red Xs on my 2 b/u profiles.  I select the correct drive to use and Acronis puts a big red X between the two.  I cannot figure ou how to get arouind this.  Somehow it worked last time.  How do I get this connection sorted out?  Need help.  Very frustrated. The new interface is not an improvement by any stretch.

Thanks,  Bruce

Bruce,

The reason for this problem is because when you initially created your backup task, a record of the destination drive, including drive letter and unique drive identifier (UUID) are stored in the Acronis Database files.  When the drive letter changes due to another device having claimed the original letter used by the device, then the task is out of sync with the database record.

The way around this issue is to connect your external drive then go into Windows Disk Management and change the drive letter that was allocated to a letter near the end of the alphabet, so that this letter won't be offered to any other devices you may connect.

Once you have allocated the new drive letter (i.e. S:\) then in the Acronis GUI, click on the (V) options against the task name, take the option to Clone the settings which will create a duplicate new task (1) task name..

Change the settings of the new duplicate task to point to your new drive letter / location, then delete the settings for the original task.  Note: do not delete the full backup including files.

Your new task with its drive settings stored in the Acronis Database should remain untouched by any other drive letter changes and your drive will be allocated the new drive letter each time it is connected.
