Sector by sector backup

Thread needs solution

Acronis 2010 TI backs up sector by sector when backing up Linux Ext4 partitions. I'm just wondering why. Should I re-install using Ext3? or will Acronis be updating their software to handle Ext4?

Hello Allan!

Welcome to our Forum and thank you for finding time to leave your question.

Unfortunately you are correct: currently Acronis True Image Home 2010 doesn't support ext4. We have sent the request for it to the Product Management and Development team, but unfortunately still have no timframes when this feature will be implemented.

However I will forward your comment to the Management team so that they could be aware that this feature is needed and awaited.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you for understanding and patience.

I would preorder the minute Acronis announces ext4 with incremental and file level handling. And if it had Try&Decide then double the happiness =))
Would be nice to have a official announcement at least =( Paragon has Ext4 why can't Acronis?? It's the best backup software out there. I used Paragon HDM2010 trial for an hour and it was like traveling back to 1995 in terms of looks and usability

Felt like in beta

Hello Dmitry!

Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it!

I'm glad to share some good news with you.

First of all, support of Ext4 will be added in the next release of the Acronis True Image Home (which's coming soon) as well in Acronis Backup and Recovery products. You can find more details here.

I will also forward your request for incremental and file level handling as well as Try and Decide to development team, they will take it under consideration.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Nice for you to reply so quick =) But someone of forum staff said that ext4 would be in TI2010 and they didn't implement it eventually. So I'm just sticking to "it will be done when it's done" policy. Problem is that it's all very blurry. "Future update" is not something I want to make bets on, right? Would be nice if developers gave people some milestones or something. It's a lot easier to wait if you know what you are waiting for.
And yet your words are more solid that I've seen before.

Can I take that official? Will ATIH2011 (or whatever) have EXT4 100%???

Dear Dmitry!

Thank you for your comment! I completely share your opinion. Providing customers with "next release" promises looks misty, and it's hard to make bets on it.

But I'm glad to assure you that we have it officially documented in our Knowledgebase article, which is public and can be found here. Thus it's not only my statement, but Company statement. And the next release of Acronis True Image Home version is Acronis True Image Home 2011. So yes, it should be implemented.

We also accurately registering every feature request from the customers and constantly forward it to Development team (as I forwarded your comment). Be sure that every request (and volume of requests) is taken under consideration, and the product is improved if possible.

Unfortunately I cannot say when Acronis True Image Home 2011 will be released. It's a question for Development, Testers and Support Experts team.

Release version should get an approval from Support Experts, Testers and Developers to be presented and sold. Since release date depends on a great number of factors, it's difficult to talk about some particular timeframes.

But we have already announced Acronis True Image Home 2011 Beta program. I'd advise you to test it.
If you’d like to join in our current beta program and try our new product, you will need to register first at:
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/beta.html.

In case you are already registered in our beta program you will need to log in to your existing account at: https://www.acronis.com/my/beta/atih/

The best thing here is that you will have an ability to communicate with Development team directly: they're working on our Acronis True Image Home 2010 Beta Forum and paying attention to every request and feedback. (Please note that you may not have a permission for accessing Beta Forum until you actually participating in the program.)

I'll also forward your comment to the Management team and check whether there's a possibility to obtain a reply from Development in this thread.

Meanwhile I would appreciate if you could continue sharing your concerns with me - I'll be glad to address each of them.

Thank you once again for your questions and cooperation!
