Failed to update from true image 2013 to 2017

Thread needs solution

I've recently purchased acronis 2017.

However, when trying to update my current acronis true image 2013 on my PC, I'm getting all the update failed message.

It does not state why and in other details I'm getting a message: "Installation has failed. Fatal error during installation".

I've tried to disable NIS and install - didn't work either.

Tried to find the answer in windows log and got the following message:

Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Acronis True Image. Product Version: 20.0.5554. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Acronis. Installation success or error status: 1603.

I don't want to uninstall acronis 2013 since I'm afraid for the validlity of my acronis 2013 backup files if I will uninstall the 2013 version before installing the 2017 version.

Is there any way to find why does the update don't work  and fix it without uninstalling ?

Eran, welcome to these user forums.

When upgrading from an early version of ATIH such as 2013 the recommendation is to uninstall that early version first before attempting to install the 2017 version - this is shown in the ATIH 2017 FAQ document which is shown in the left column of the forum.

For your ATIH 2013 backup files, the best advice is to make or keep the Acronis Rescue Media for that version - this can be on CD/DVD or USB stick and would allow you access to your backup files by booting from that media should you need it.

My advice at this point would be to fully remove ATIH 2013 - do a normal uninstall by the Control Panel, then download the Acronis Cleanup Tool from the link in my signature, run this as Administrator to remove all residual data from 2013, restart the computer to complete the cleanup action.  Finally reinstall ATIH 2017 (run as Administrator) and check if the install issue is resolved.

Officially, ATIH 2017 does not support backward compatibility with your ATIH 2013 backup files - see KB document: 1689: Backup Archive Compatibility Across Different Product Versions but once you have the product installed, try to browse the contents of the files via Windows Explorer to see if you can open and navigate them.

If you still are unable to install ATIH 2017 after doing the cleanup etc, then you should open a support ticket with Acronis Support to get help from the Acronis engineers with this issue.
