New PC died, was replaced with identical PC, now I need to recover to new PC
Greetings.
On 12/15/2016, I bought my wife a new Windows 10 laptop. On 12/16 I purchased True Image 2017. I setup incremental daily backups. On January 4th, the HD in the new laptop crashed. The reseller replaced the laptop with an identical unit. After visiting with Acronis tech support, I'm told that I must restore as if I'm restoring to dissimilar hardware.
I started reading through the KB I was given and quickly realized that this procedure is way beyond my skill-set. There are not that many apps that need to be installed, I can handle that.
I do need to be able to recover the data folders. I installed True Image 2017 on the new, replacement laptop.
1. How can I get the few folders I need recovered? The NAS that stores the data is mapped exactly the same way it was on the original laptop.
2.Since the new True Image 2017 that is installed on the new laptop, has never run a backup, how can I get TI2017 to recognize the existing backups from the previous laptop?
Thanks

Wonderful, thank you. I just assumed that since the laptop was replaced with an identical one, the recovery would be simple :) Recovery to dissimilar hardware is not for anyone 70 or older :) My kids joke that people 65 and older must have a note from their kids to buy anything that requires support. I'm starting to realize that maybe they are not joking.
Thanks again.

Just a quick word of caution - only restore / recover your user data from the backup image - do not attempt to restore any system files, program data etc as this could cause problems with the installed Windows OS on the new laptop.
As for being over 65, welcome to the club, you, me and lots of others visiting these forums, got less than 2 years to hit the magical 70 milestone but helps to keep the 'little grey cells' busy helping out here.

You tell those little grey cells that I appreciate their help.
Yeah, just some user data folders. The 2 program data folders, once restored, will be moved to different folders. Once the apps are installed, I'll grab the data files.

I am only pushing 65 (about 5 weeks to go) so I am youngster compared to Steve. If Steve has lost anything with his advancing years it is not showing. Lots of excellent advise presented in an easy-to-understand manner.
