Consolidation clarify needed

Thread needs solution

using IT2010 build 7046, XP pro sp3. bakup to NAS external via USB2.0, and esata external 2nd harddrive, I keep 2 copy in 2 different destination, the 2nd hd only runs full backup every month.

I scheduled 1 full backup consolidate after 14 increments, on the 15 day (yesterday), it did consolidate the files, but after consolidation I still has the full backup with 14 increments in the backup destination, I was thinking it will only left me 1 full consolidated backup, and delete all the increments, then it will start from the beginning with the consolidated full follow with 14 increments again. Is this how it suppose to work or am I thinking it wrong? because if this is the case, it will consolidate everyday after the 14 day instead of making increment, and it'll takes ages to finish the backup process, please clarify, thanks.

The incs are left behind and overwritten as new incs are created.

but that wasn't the case, it wasn't overwrite to the left behind incs, it still write to a new file(15), then it did the consolidation again for today's backup.

Okay, then Acronis will have to chime in or you'll need to contact Tech; that sounds like a malfucniton in the file manager's behavior.

vk,

Most of the forum regular forum contributors refrain from creating multi incrementals. Think of the entire backup set of being one big chain. If any of the link (individual incrementals) become corrupt, then the backup is only usable from the first full backup up to the file which is corrupt. If any of the older incrementals get corrupt, then the newer incrementals are NOT restorable. As to how many incrementals is too many is impossible to predict. You would be safer to create more frequent full backup sets so you have different sets to choose from should you have a need.

Or to do diffs, which don't depend on all the intermediates files.

Thanks for the advices. I've use TI since 8 never have problem until ungraded to TI2010 (for it better space saving capability, and that's what fail on me). I use the alternative solution C2G for now. But TI should really fix this, because I know I am not the only one having this problem, and because I am no TI tech.....I don't want to modify no script to make a paying product to work, that's why I paid for this product, it should work out of box for what it's selling.
