Installation abort of Acronis True Image Home 2010 Upgrade

Thread needs solution

I try to install a just purchased Acronis True Image Home 2010 Upgrade (file TrueImage2010_s_en.exe) on a PC with Win XP SP3 and Acronis True Image Home 11 already installed.
The installation aborts with the message: " The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image Home could be installed. You need to restart the installer and try again".
I tried several times with all the possible install options, but the result is always the same.
What else can I do to successfully install the damn program ?

Hello Giancarlo,

Thank you for posting, I will be happy to help.

I would recommend you to perform a clean install of the program.
1. Completely uninstall Acronis software (Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs. Select Acronis True Image and hit "Remove").
2. Reboot the computer.
3. Temporally disable your Anti-Virus software (including Firewalls).
4. Manually delete the content of the following folder: C:\Documents and settings\[account_name]\local settings\temp
5. Install the product again from the scratch.
When going through the Acronis True Image Home 2010 installation wizard please enter the serial number for your copy of Acronis True Image Home 2010 Upgrade, and you will be asked to enter the serial number for your copy of the product, you are upgrading to Acronis True Image Home 2010 (a second serial number box will appear under the first one). So, please specify an old serial number you own and proceed with the installation.
If the problem persists, please provide us with .msi log file of the failed operation, it will help us to find the exact reason of the encountered issue.
1. Launch the product installation file;
2. Once the Acronis product installation screen appears, right-click on the name of the component that fails to install. You should see two options there: Install and Extract. Select Extract;
3. Select the path for extracting the component and click Save. You should select C partition, and leave the auto-created file name.
4. Go to the Run prompt (Start -> Run) and issue the following command:
msiexec /i C:\AcronisTrueImage.msi /l*v C:\msilog.log
5. Reproduce the problem and send us the log file created during the installation;
6. Please compress MSI output file into an archive (e.g. with WinZip) and attach to your next post.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

I was running ATIH 9 and tried to update to 10 on a Vista 64 machine.

I have the same problem, except in I can't install because the installer reports "Acronis True image Home Files are In use." "The following applications are using files that the installer must update. Close of click continue to overwrite these files."

Application is Windows Explorer.

I have tried an repair using the installer and get the error message:
"The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image Home could be installed. You need to restart the installer and try again"

Can't uninstall, as I get the same error as above.

Don't want to install and overwrite files unless I know what they are.

Any suggestions for my situation would be welcomed.
Thanks

Robert,

The installer for 2009 and 2010 is very fussy about programs that access drives and network. So expect to have to close down your browser, Windows Explorer or any 3rd party file manager, and occasionally your firewall or A/V software if it has a live file scanner that runs.

Onto your new problem - if clearing the Windows Temp folder in the Local Settings (you need to be able to see system files and folders to see this folder) doesn't do the job, then you may need to download the Microsoft program cleanser to remove all traces of TI 2010 from registry, as well as the Acronis folder entries under Program Files and Common Files.

Hello all,

Please accept our profound apologies for the delays with the response.

bodgy, thank you very much for your valuable and correct comments.

I may recommend you to do the following to work around the installation issues of the Acronis software:

  1. Completely uninstall the previous version by the means of Acronis Clean Up Utility for True Image 10/11/2009 (in case if you want to completely uninstall the 2010 version, please use this link);
  2. Try installing the software again;
  3. If the installation still fails, please follow this guide to troubleshoot the issue.

Please let me know if you have any further questions, I'll be glad to assist you.

Thank you.

I'm also having this problem. I had TI11 installed fine, uninstalled it through add/remove programs, and now can't install the new version (not an upgrade).

I tried the msi things that Oleg described, but it fails to produce a log file.

I have run the cleanup utility, run ccleaner, turned-off my firewall and AV, but still no joy.

Downloaded the installer clean-up utility, but it lists no instances of Acronis.

The guide mentioned above doesn't even offer a starting point for this issue.

What can I do now?

After much frustration, I think I discovered a way around this silliness.

The thing that got the job done was to create a new account with admin privileges, and install TI from there.

It installed fine for me this way.

Then delete the account, or leave it for the next time something like this happens.

I got the "interrupted" mesage on my new HP Pavilion with Intel Quad 4 running WIN 7 64-bit. No previous install of Acronis. I finally got the darned thing to install by turning off User Account Control (UAC) & rebooting. (See details below.)

Thank you all for giving enough information to get me pointed in the right direction.

Tried disabling firewall/antivirus etc. - nothing worked - BUT - when I downloaded Acronis cleanup utility from Ilya's link, it refused to run until I turned off UAC.

Coming from an XP OS, I had no idea what UAC was - turns out it's the thing that's been dimming my screen & asking me if I really want to run this or that. (Google is my friend!)

start-run-msconfig-tools & scroll to UAC opens the control - move the slider all the way to bottom to turn off. Reboot to take effect.

Instead of running the cleaner, I tried loading TI2010 again (with antivirus, etc. all running) - bingo! Installed without a hitch.

Haven't run a backup yet - but got the bootable disk made. Keeping fingers crossed.........

Thanks again!

In Windows 7, another way to run "User Account Control Settings" program is to click the Start button.
and paste the following into the Search text box:

C:\Windows\System32\UserAccountControlSettings.exe

This path assumes you have Windows 7 installed on Drive C: in the \Windows folder.
Press the Enter key to run it. If UAC is turned on (or up) you will get a popup asking if you wish to let it modify your system.

I am having trouble install in ATI 2011 on my Win Prof. x64; I have tried everything, cleaning up the %TMP%, cleanup utility, also deleted all the registries related to Acronis. Not able to install the ATI 2011.
I tried to do the upgrade from 2010 to 2011 failed. Deleted the 2011 and tried to clean install 2011 failed. If I go back and install 2010 it works, but not able to install the 2011. Please help, I spend couple of weekends trying to get this to work. I am attaching my install_log.txt.
I am using ATI products for past 6 year, just can't install 2011...don't know why this is so difficult.

Appreciate anything you can do to resolve this issue.

Also clean temp file
"C:\Documents and Settings\Grover\Local Settings\temp"

When I purchased my hplaptop it came with Win7- so I installed True Image 2010 & did the update.  When MS offered the free upgrade to Win10 I did the upgrade.  Thangs ran pretty smoothly, however today I tried to run TrueImage2010_s_en.exe and got the message to the effect, "This version does not work under this version of the operating system".

Question:  can I uninstall it from this machine and use that license on a machine with an older OS on it?

It has been awhile since I used TrueImage2010-- my presumption is that this is an installed version on my current machine and not a "Stand Alone" program I can just move from one machine to the other.  I still have my license code- so not problems there.

Gary

Gary, welcome to these user forums.

ATIH 2010 is not supported for use when installed on Windows 10 so the message you have seen has come from the Windows 10 Compatibility checker service.  Only ATIH 2015 or later versions are supported for use with Windows 10.

You should be able to uninstall ATIH 2010 from your computer - try doing this normally from the Control Panel and if needed, then download the Acronis Cleanup Tool and run this as Administrator to remove any residual traces of the product.

See KB 3553: Operating Systems Acronis True Image Home 2010 Supports for details where you could still use this software.

You should be able to reinstall ATIH 2010 on another computer provided you have your valid license code to enter when asked for.
