true image does not see external sata drive

Thread needs solution

hi.

i have a 1.5 TB drive that i use for backup.  my laptop has usb 3.0 ports, the drive has a usb 2.0 and a sata port.  i connect the drive using a usb 3 to sata converter cable and with win 10 it works fine.  but if i use the TI 2016 cd and boot from that it does not see the external drive when using the sata port.  i have to use the usb 2.0 port on the drive which is slower.  anything i can do?

thanks

Neil, welcome to these user forums.

From the information that you have provided, it sound like you are using the standard, Linux based, Acronis bootable Rescue Media on CD and this will not have the device drivers needed to connect to the external drive using SATA.

You would need to create the alternative Windows PE version of the Rescue Media and try using that instead.  I would recommend creating this on USB media rather than on CD, as this will give you more flexibility should the media need to be updated or additional drivers added etc.

See the MVP Tool - Custom ATI WINPE Builder tool - link in my signature below which will build this type of media and can inject additional device drivers very easily.
