The operation failed to complete... again, and again, and again.

Thread needs solution

Hi, I am trying to recover data from an image and keep getting errors.

First of all, system spec.

Acronis True Image Home 2009 Build 9,809
Windows XP Pro 32 bit
AMD AthlonII X4 @ 2.8GHz
4GB DDR3
ATi HD3870 512MB
Asus Mobo

Right, if I try and explore the image I get an access denied error when entering "My Documents", If I mount the image I get a "A drive letter could not be assigned to the partition" error, and if I try to put the image onto another HDD I get "The operation failed to complete" error.

Not one error comes with any useful data on what caused the error, I have tried restoring to 3 different HDDs with the same result, I have restarted umpteen times, I have tried uninstalling / reinstalling acronis, I have tried running Image validation, which did complete successfully. All to no avail. I dont have the time to muck about and I NEED the data off that drive, which is why I backed it up.

As a system admin it would be nice if future versions could actually tell me what failed and why, not just "The operation failed to complete", I worked that much out myself, I did happen to notice my data wasn't where I asked it to be.

Thanks in advance to those that help.

Have you tried restoring just the files/folders you want (or some of them) instead of the entire image?

Have you tried doing either type of restore from the TI CD instead of in Windows?

Does the image Validate successfully?

Some people have reported success using the TI 2010 trial version to restore older images that had problems. You'd probably have to try the 2011 trial now, though.
