Reboot during backp

Thread needs solution

Hi Folks -

Two days ago True Image 20015 (Build 6613) started to reboot my machine (Win 7 64 Ultimate) after about 1/3 to 1/2 way through a sector by sector image backup of my C drive.  Has now happened 4 times in a row. No new hardware, no errors in hardware or software other than a failed attempt by a Windows support person to install Win 10 on my machine - so it reverted to Win 7.  I purchased TI 2015 through Cleverbridge so no backup disks?

Any thoughts, info and/or help would be greatly appreciated, as this program has been flawless for me, as well as 2013 and 2011 versions.

Thanks

Jonathon

Jonathon, if you have registered / activated your ATIH 2015 software to your Acronis Account, then you can download the latest build installer from the Downloads section of the account, along with an .ISO image of the Acronis Rescue Media.

My first question is to ask why are you doing a sector-by-sector backup of your C: drive?  This should not be necessary except in some exceptional conditions and will make your backup image files much larger than they would need to be as any exclusions being set will be ignored when using this backup method.

When you say there are no hardware or software errors, how are you checking for these?

I would recommend disabling sector-by-sector and also running CHKDSK C: /R to do a full disk surface check for any bad sectors that may be present which the sector-by-sector backup may be hitting.

Next, download the MVP Log Viewer app (link below) and use this to check for any messages written to the backup task logs when your system rebooted.

You should also check the manufacturers web site for your disk drive for any diagnostic / utility programs they may provide that can check the whole disk drive, not just your C: partition of that drive.

Hi Steve -

Thanks for the info in your response.  I had not understood there was an .iso version to download for me.

I was doing a sector by sector image of my OS drive in prep for upgrading to Win 10.  I thought it would be the safest and most secure way to restore my Win 7 if things got totally messed up.......and of course they did ..by a MS tech person.

My experience with TI 2015 is that it did not copy the blank areas when doing a sector by sector image backup.  I have used it for years that way and always got backups that reflected only the "data" on the drive being backed up.

This is not true with TI 2015 and backing up with Win 10.  Then it backs up the entire dirve anfd reflects the total drive size in the backup.

I did run Chkdsk on all my drives  as I was preparing to attempt an upgrade to Win 10.  Everything reported as fine and everything was runnning smoothly when I started the image backup.....then the reboot happened in the middle.  I had never had a True Image backup process fail before, or even not verify.   The reboot happened 3 times in 3 successive image back up attemps.

So after the horror of the Win 10 upgrade...at least there is no reboot during the image backups with TI 2015

(See my latest post for more Win 7 to 10 info)

Thanks again for all your help!
