TIH-2014 ERROR Handling Option for USB backup drives

Thread needs solution

The ATIH HELP file says that if there is an error during backup - the Error Retries counter in Custom Settings is IGNORED for USB and SSD drives. Really? Was that a typo?

********

QUOTE about ERROR HANDLING:

Repeat attempt if a backup fails - This option allows you to automatically repeat a backup attempt if the backup fails for some reason. You can configure this option by specifying two settings - number of attempts and time interval between attempts. According to these settings, Acronis True Image 2014 will try to back up your data until the backup is successfully created. But if the error interrupting the backup persists, then the backup will not be created.

This option is NOT available, when you back up your data TO a USB flash drive,  or USB hard drive.

Surely, this can't be correct!    Except for large Corporate SERVERS, (which by definition,  is therefore unlikely an Acronis HOME Edition user system - ATIH)

Besides .... the vast majority of Backup Drives these days are USB Hard Drives (or maybe FLASH type SSD's) - Why would ACRONIS developers make backups even more difficult for the common folks? Has these bad idea of the exception for USB backup devices, continued right into the latest ATIH editions?

It is not uncommon for a backup USB drive to be powered off, most of the time, and activated by the user, sometimes only as needed, to save on drive lifetime, or when Scheduled Backups can be occasionally skipped, due to low PC use during the previous scheduled period. The user, sometimes suddenly realizes that the drive should be powered up again - and this error handling grace period gives some opportunity to fire up the USB backup unit, in time, during the setup number of Error Retries.

Besides, sometimes either the hard drive or the backup drive has a "senior moment", perhaps due to some other electronics or system timing event,  and pops up an error - which is recoverable in the electronics - yet ATIH hasn't got the patience to let either source/destination, rety the backup glitch?

Joe, the actual text shown in the Help information is:

This option is not available, when you back up your data to a USB flash drive or USB hard drive.

So, per your opening statement, there is no mention of this in relation to SSD drives, only USB storage.

In reality, this same text has been present over multiple different versions up to & including ATIH 2016 though I am not sure that it actually does apply this rule?  It has been removed in the ATIH 2017 User Guide / Help information.

I would suggest trying it out for yourself and checking if it does or doesn't work - I personally always disable these error handling options as they have had a habit of running away and repeating over and over and generating lots of error notification emails instead of just retrying say 5 times and quitting!
