TI 2018 Installs Bloatware?
Like, what the hey?
I've just noticed Acronis TI 2018 has installed some malware monitoring sevice, "Active Protection" This is incredibly annoying. I did not ask for this and sure as heck dont need or want it.
Acronis should stick to disk management, I dont tecognise them as anywhere near being experts on security.
How the heck do I completely uninstall this junk without removing my imaging/backup apps?
Anyone know?
And does anyone know if they've installed anything else?

Thanks Ian. Man. Well I've disabled TI in the system startup settings for now.
Next time I boot up I'll check the services list and disable any TI junk.
Between this and the cloning issue I had I'm fairly annoyed with TI 2018.
It would be tolerable if they allowed the user to disable it gracefully.
All i wanted was a reliable disk cloning utility with technical support with a decent backup utility. Network support and peripheral driver support. Maybe a backup scheduler too, so long as I could disable it from starting so that nothing runs in the background if I want.
What the flip has a malware monitor got to do with that? And where the flip did they get it?
It reminds me of the old Nortons utilities days where they installed all this useless extra junk that sucked up system resources. Sure hope they dont keep on this path.

It was much easier to disable active protection in ATI 2017.
The main objective with active protection is to protect *.tib files from being attacked by malware. It also identifies other activity that looks like malware.

Seriously? Thats not their main line of business and not what I wanted.
i've got heaps of security on my PC, which are specialised and highly trusted applications published by the cyber security experts. Why would I want some dinky malware monitor app from Acronis?
Its like I bought a car and it turns out the price included a years supply of cheap, no name soap to wash it. For flips sake!
The damn thing had a hard bug that broke my disk cloning task and doesnt even come with a utility to delete partitions! I paid a premium price because I thought that they're supposed to be highly experienced in disk management utilities, but they wasted their development resources and my money on a malware monitor!
Makes me flipping angry.

I have to agree with Hobble although not as virulently. I've been a customer of Acronis products since 2009 and skipped over a couple of ATI yearly offers due to a feature or problem encountered. Now, with the current 2018 ATI release, I feel that the Active Protection addition is really not necessary nor needed. I already have a Antivirus Security Suite along with Malwarebytes.
The extra active protection "Bloat" not only increases the size of the .exe but also increases the .msi file from 2017's 506,764KB to a whopping 819,132KB. I realize that in order to sell a yearly subscribed product, new or improved features should be made. That said, Acronis should just stick to what it does best as a Backup/Recovery suite! I just reinstalled ATI 2017 because of the extra weight and new function that I do not need....

I have to agree with Hobble although not as virulently. I also have an Antivirus Security Suite, Malwarebytes, Private Firewall, and other spyware/spam tools. I've also been an Acronis customer since 2009 and saw many changes over the years but adding this Active protection module and not being able to "Uncheck it" during the install is not an ideal standard.
Also, the "Bloat" factor is a concern considering that the .exe now weighs in @ 561,594KB from 506,093KB for ATI 2017 and the .msi file is now up to a whopping 819,132KB from 506,764KB for ATI 2017. Is this added protection and the unwanted Bonjour program really necessary for Aconis to include?
I realize that a yearly subscription program needs some new tweaking or improvements in order to sell but, Aconis really should concentrate on what it does best and that is a great Backup and Recovery suite!

jacksplat, welcome to these User Forums.
Acronis is simply mirroring what other competitor products are doing in terms of integrating protection mecanisms for their backup files in their product.
I do not believe that there is any real bloatware included with Acronis True Image and any difference in installer size reflects modern coding inefficiencies as evidenced by Windows itself. What used to come on a few diskettes now requires a DVD for the install size!
Acronis uses Bonjour for network discovery of remote storage drives such as NAS and includes this as not all users have Apple software installed.
All of the above is just my own view as a long term user of Acronis products - I am not an employee or paid by Acronis to share my opinions!
