Unable to do a scheduled backup to a NAS device
I am running Vista Enterprise 32bit and True Image Home 2009 Buid 9.796 I have been doing backups successfully to a USB connected disk. I'm switching to use a share located on a NAS device (HP MediaVault 2020) as the target, but I've run into issues.
I can map the share and read and write to it from Internet Explorer.
The NAS device does not have user protection enabled, i.e. no username/password is required.
Here's what I do with the results (same recipe I follow with the USB disk)
In the 'Target archive' step...
I select the share, the folder within the share, and give it a file name.
At this point I get a Confirmation pop-up:
"You have selected remote resource and have not specified credentials for it. Do you want to continue?"
If you say Yes and then Next, it will pop the box up again. Saying Yes again will allow it to proceed forward.
FWIW - If I had not 'continued' above and tried going to 'Authentication settings' as pointed to by the detail in the pop-up, the 'Test connection' always fails with "Connection failed. Please, verify username and password".
Moving to the scheduling step...
I select daily. The 'User name' field is filled in and I add my password.
I complete the rest of the steps and schedule the task.
I then select the task and tell it to start now. Its starts but I get an informational pop-up:
"Error creating file."
Retring or re-selecting the location just produces a repeat of the condition.
I can get a succesful backup to the NAS device using the same steps as above, with the exception of the scheduling step where I just leave it 'Do not schedule'.
The difference seems to be whether it's running in my current session context or one created using the info I provided for scheduling.
How do I get scheduled backups to work with my NAS device?
Thanks,
Dave

Thanks for your quick reply.
I do enter a username (DOMAIN\USER) and a password as described in the OP. The account has administrator rights. The scheduled task starts, but fails with the error 'Error creating the file'. The log shows that the task started and performed a few steps before failing.
I created another account of the form SERVER\USER. Using the same backup steps, this instance seems to run correctly.
This gives me a solution that works, though I am curious as to why the DOMAIN\USER path does not work? I'd be interested in any thoughts you have on this.

On a slightly different tack, I have an MV2120 and save my backups to that. I just tried to confirm the disk image recovery operation by booting off the TI boot recovery disk.
I cannot see the MV2120 and in the TI software, I am asked for an NDAS DEVICE ID (20 character code) and a 5-character write key.
How do you "see" the Mediavault to do a recovery from the boot disk? If I can't get to my .tib files, I'm screwed if my hard drive goes down!
(I am running Vista Home Premium, 64-bit with a Linksys WRT54GS Broadband router and a 200GB c:\ drive image .tib file)

I punted... I saw that there were issues with recovery using the MV as the source. If I have to recover the notebook disk, I copy the backup files I need from the MV to a USB drive and use that for the restore. Fortunately, the need to restore doesn't come up very often.

Thanks for the advice.
I don't have an external USB harddrive with enough free space to be able to do that and I bought the NAS because TI supposedly supports it.
My problem is that Acronis states they support NAS, but how? Ever since the early days of TI, they always seem to have a problem keeping up with the latest data storage hardware.
Acronis support is now basically non-existent - a real shame since it seems to be the best backup software out there (even though it has many problems), but at the end of the day, it's all about how a company serves it's paying customers when they are using the product - Acronis seems to have given up that key responsibility.

I've purchased 7 licenses of Workstation 10 for a client and since October I've have consistent and random problems with disappearing tasks and credential errors. Randomly can/can't login to various NAS, not to mention FTP backup which has been failing at random completion levels.
I'm totally frustrated and normally don't post, but I have to say that this is by far the most buggy and unreliable software I've ever used.

Hello all,
Here are the instructions on how to back up to a NAS device. They're applicable to all Acronis Backup&Recovery 10 editions, all Acronis True Image Echo editionas and to Acronis True Image Home 2009/2010.
Acronis True Image Echo and Acronis True Image Home
- Map the drive by computer name by using a batch file. For complete instructions see this KB article.
Acronis Backup & Recovery 10
- On the Create backup plan screen, tick off Advanced view. Click Change next to Access credentials under Where to back up:
- Provide username and password for the NAS:
(!) The backup to NAS may fail with an error message similar to the following one:
The selected vault is not available at the moment. Please select a different vault
If you have your NAS joined to a domain or workgroup, avoid using the top level domain extension .local; e.g. If your NAS is set to be joined tomydomain.local, then connect to your NAS and change it to Mydomain.
After changing the NAS setting, please refresh your DNS cache. to do so:
- Start-Run -> type in "cmd and press Enter;
- In the command prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns
Please reply to this thread if there will be any issues or additional questions, I'll be glad to help.
Thank you.

Can someone please explain the directions below
The user name should be specified in the form of SERVER\USER or DOMAIN\USER
It looks like he means you enter the BlackArmor NAS server\User NOT the windows user that owns the task. (???) Is this true? If this is true where do you find the name of the NAS server? In the NAS Management? Where?
Thanks

Hello Kub,
Let me clarify this situation for you.
It depends on the exact scheme you've set your NAS up. If it's part of Domain, you should specify its exact credentials, but without .local extension.
NAS credentials can be found in Passwords Management tab under Control Panel.
Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

Does 2011 work EXACTLY the same way?
