Vacation Wipe and Restore?

Thread needs solution

I'm going to spend two weeks in Africa and would like to take my laptop primarily to edit images.  The problem is that I also use my laptop for work and there is quite a bit of confidential information on it.

Could I create an image or clone of the hard drive, then delete the programs and confidential information, and then when I come back just restore?

Doable? Risky?

Thanks

Frank

This is not a good plan. Deleting the confidential data from the cloned drive will not protect it. If your laptop is lost or stolen, the deleted confidential data could be retrieved from the drive. I would remove the existing drive, buy a new drive and install a clean copy of Windows. Then install the apps and data you want to use on vacation. Upon return, reinstall the existing drive.

Fully agree with Paul's advice here - remove the current drive and install a new drive with a clean copy of Windows and your applications needed for your vacation.  Put your removed drive in a safe ready for your return home.
