TI 20111 does not see removable external hard drive
It is my habit to backup C:\ to both ASZ and a removable HD on a monthly basis. I last backup using TI 2011 build 5519 in September. Today I ran my October backups but noted that the backup to the external drive is no longer recognised and consequently I would be unable to Recover from that drove should the occasion arise.
Backup to removal external drives has been the ultimate in security for many years and I cannot believe that the latest version of TI has this shortcoming.

I am afraid you seem to have missed the point. I had no trouble finding the drive to make the backup it is just that if I wanted to Restore from that backup TI does not see the drive. The screenshot which I attached to my post shows the situation clearly. The previous backup 17 to the hard drive is not accessible.

If you are concerned that your backup does not appear under the "My Backups" option, don't worry. The browse for backup options will enable you to find them. Many of the users do NOT want all their backups to appear under the "My Backups" listing because the list would become unmanageable.
You can force your backup to appear on this list by simulatiing the beginning of a restore. Attach your external drive and make sure it is recognized by Windows. Use the browse function and select the specific file and it will appear on your "My BAckups" listing.
If needing to restore your system back to the old drive or to a new drive, the most successful way is to perform the restore procedures when booted from the TI Rsscue CD. This is why it is important to know that your Rescue CD can see all your drives. If your current rescue CD truly cannot see your external drive, then try an alternate CD which is available from your registration/download page. This alternate is called "Bootable media" and once downloaded, the iso file must be burnt onto a CD as an image--not just a copy.
This image may be of interest. This is from the installed version of 2011. The Rescue CD illustration would differ if using the CD.

Thank you. Browsing to the disk and clicking on 'Add to Backup list' did the trick. However, I still think it is ridiculous to have to go to all this trouble. It should have been shown without having to go through this step.
