True Image 10 create backup wizard "not responding" after I select what I want to backup
I backed up my entire machine to a Maxtor 1Tb external usb drive. Machine crashed a few weeks ago and Acronis to the rescue. I restored the machine perfectly and everything is working well. I reloaded some data and reinstalled software / Microsoft updates. Still everthings good. Now I want to backup the machine as it is. PROBLEM. TI opens; I select "create backup wizard"; then select backup type "My Computer"; partion selection "C". Then I click next and nothing happens- after 5-10min I get a Not responding message and I have to force quit.
I have tried rebooting. I uninstalled TI and reloaded. I downloaded the update to build 4942. I used msconfig and tried in "diagnostic boot" mode. I searched the forums and I am out of ideas. I also tried back-up wizard for email and data and again the program hangs at the same location.
I am running vista OS on a Toshiba Satellite notebook. Please help.

No. How should I proceed? Can I create a rescue CD from within Acronis and is there a procedure for running from that CD to create a backup? Thank you for tackling this issue with me.

Very welcome Dave.
Yes you can create the 'bootable rescue media' from within TI, i'm not familiar with TI 10 but I assume it will be in the tools or some options menu. Just insert a blank cd first and then select the option. It may ask what you want to put on the disk and you may as well select everything there is.
Once that has done you will be able to restart the pc and it should boot up from the cd. If it doesn't then let us know. It will load fairly quick and may present you with options and you will want the Full True Image one. From there it should be pretty familiar. At this stage you can remove the cd as TI will have loaded itself into memory - the difference being that Windows will not be running and interferring. Then you can hopefully do what you need to do.
The machine will restart when you close the main window.

I too have experienced a similar issue. I would like to back up from within TI, but not be forced to start from a CD boot.
This is really a bit annoying.

I'm coming in a bit late on this one, but I seem to be having the same problem with TIH2009. What was the resolution on this particular thread?

Hello all,
Please accept our profound apologies for the delay with the response.
Let me help you with this issue.
Most probably, the issue was caused by the malfunction of Acronis SnapAPI driver that is responsible for all input/output operations with the hard drives. So, to fix the issue you need to update this driver.
For Acronis True Image 10 Home: please download, unpack and install the updated driver. After that, please reboot and try to back up again.
John Whythe, since you're using Acronis True Image 2009 Home, you need to download another driver at this link, install it and rebbot.
Let me know if you have any additional questions, I'll be glad to assist you.
Thank you.

Hi,
I have recently installed TI Home 11 and ran into the same problem. I updated to the new build (8101) and installed an updated SnapAPI380, but with the same hangup. One symptom is that the directory tree is not shown in the "Select Backup Location" screen, i.e. I just see the Desktop Icon. Though I can manually type in the drive letter of my USB drive (E:\) after I hit "Next" the program just hangs.
I have also tried just creating a backup location, but that process hangs at the location selection screen as well; though now I see the directory tree. I have also tried disabling all unneeded startup tasks and anti-virus.
My machine is an HP d530 (Pentium 4 with 2.5GB) running XPSP3. External Drive is Iomega 1TB.
I am trying a full back from a CD boot.

I have had the same issue with True Image Home 11, and backing up to a WD external hard drive.. In windows, creating the backup is fine, but restoring a backup wether in windows or on the bootable rescue media, the software just hangs forever trying to read the 1TB external media.
If I backup and restore to smaller external media (I also use 500gb and 250gb external drives) I do not experience this issue. I assume this has to do with the way the software reads the larger hard drives, and was considering updating my software to the newest version, but it seems that the problem would still exist, even when booting off of the rescue media.
I have experienced this on my desktop as well as a few laptops of various makes, so I know it can't really be a hardware issue.
