clone disk

Thread needs solution

I have been trying to clone a valuable disk that is bootable .  My PC has one internal HD. There is also a USB hard drive.  I can write to and read from a disk with this portable HD. When I try  to clone my disk Acronis will not see it.

Are there any workarounds for this problem?  Get Acronis somehow to see this HD? Clone to desktop?

Thanks, Richard

Some more information may assist us in helping you. Are you attempting the clone from within Windows or using recovery media.

Licencing restrictions mean that you cannot install Windows on a USB drive.

Are you sure that cloning is the best solution. I do not keep clones of any of my drives; I create backups instead. If and issue arises, I recover from the backup either to the existing drive or a replacement drive.

Before doing a clone you should check out the discussion in this thread.

Richard, what exactly are you trying to clone here?
I am not clear as to whether you are wanting to clone your internal drive, your USB drive or a different drive altogether?
What file system is the drive using that you want to clone?

If your disk is truly valuable, then please make a full disk backup image of it before doing any further clone attempts.

Woops …….. If you in fact cloning you definitely should do a full disk backup as Steve suggests.
