ATI 2011 Install nightmare

Thread needs solution

Apologies... I posted this problem in the backup and restore section by mistake

I have used Acronic TI products for some time and over the years they have recovered my system successfully on a number of occasions.

I recently suffered a four and a half year old WD Raptor failure, tried to use TI 2009 to restore it first but TI could not write to the drive. WD replaced my old drive with a new Veloci Raptor within a week and ATI 2009 cloned my old Vista HP 64 BIT system (that I had reinstalled to a standard WD drive) to the new Raptor.

This is where my troubles began. I purchased ATI 2011 today, downloaded both TI 2011 (tih_s_uk.exe)and Powerplus (ti14powerpack_s_uk.exe) I tried installing ATI 2011 over ATI 2009 and before I had chance to install it I was told an update was available so downloaded that and began the install. The install finished but an error message said the install was interrupted and to try installing again. Did this twice. Rebooted and during reboot saw MBR Error 3 message. I then installed Power plus with a message saying an update was available, so downloaded that. Why it was not possible to download the latest versions on purchase is beyond me.

I started up TI 2011 and a message came again, saying an update was available and another 181mb download began. I tried installing that and was told the install was interrupted and to try again. I decided then, to log on to my Acronis account and downloaded ATIH2011_5519_en-EU.exe and the latest PP, ATIH2011PP_5519_en-EU.exe

I uninstalled, both ATI 2011 and PP but would welcome any help on what could be going wrong with these failed installs and secondly, how to get rid of the MBR Error 3 without having to use the

Bootrec.exe /FixMbr
Bootrec.exe /FixBoot
or
Bootrec.exe /Rebuildbcd

Many thanks for any help,

Ray
I have lost count of the number of successfull, first time installs of TI and do have a reasonable knowledge of Computers - http://shepsshed.com/pcbits.htm but this install problem has me stumped.

I should have read further into the Forum as I found the reason why ATI 2011 failed to install - EMPTY THE TEMP FOLDER! Tried again and install went without trouble.

.

I have another problem...

Failed to activate Acronis Startup Recovery Manager

Not a good start for a new piece of software and I see from the forum it's a known problem!!!!

To activate Acronis Startup Recovery Manager I made a boot disk and activated Startup Recovery Manager from that - that got rid of the MBR Error 3 and all is fine now.
