ATI-2018 Backup Speed

Thread solved

I retired my 2 year old Dell XPS PC and purchased a new Dell XPS with a faster CPU, my wife got the old PC.  A strange thing happened.  My full backup of 70+ GB which took a bit less than 5 minutes to perform now takes a little over 7 minutes!

The data on my SSD is roughly the same as on my old PC, which was also SSD.  I have experimented with the Operational Priority set to Low, then again at High, no difference.  What's causing the 40% difference?

Thanks, Bill

No idea as there's nothing to gauge on. Nit all processors are the same. There are variations of processors that have different turbo boost or power, even in the same class (like there are literally 10 different 8th gen i3 chips).

Also, we don't know your hard drive specs in both systems. If the old drive is a smaller SSD but the new system has a larger capacity, but slower 7200 spinner ng or hybrid drive that could be a difference.

USB ports can have different capabilities too. A USB 3.0 on one machine can be slower than a USB 3.0 port on another - and newer doesn't always mean faster if the USB port is of a lower quality that was used to decrease build costs.

Ultimately, we have no way to help you find the root cause, but there are lots of possibilities you can look into, starting with comparing the actual CPU specs and hard drive specs side by side. Newer does not mean faster in all regards.
