ABR 10 Linux verify incrementals

Thread needs solution

Is there a less painful way of checking an incremental file is valid ?

It appears the validate (or --verify) checks all the files back to the last full.

When there are 400 incrementals (1.6Tb in total), it will take too long to do on a regular basis.

Mark.

Hello Mark!

Thank you for finding time to open the thread regarding this question. I understand your concern, and will do my best to help you.

Incremental backups actually contain the information about the changes made since the last backup (incremental or full), not the changed data itself. Since incremental backup is valid only in case the previous images in the chain are valid as well, the validation will always run through the entire chain till it checks full backup.

As a workaround you can decrease the number of incremental backups in the chain by running consolidation and starting a new chain of the backup.
