Backups No Longer Working - Computer Freezing
Hi Forum
I hope someone can help here? I've spent the last 3 days trying to backup my system, but Acronis just hangs. Not only does the program hang, but it actually locks the whole computer meaning I have to just shut it down.
I've tried many times now to no avail. I'm assuming this is a problem with Acronis (although I can't know for sure), simply because the every other application both online and off, is functioning perfectly normally. Anyhow, here are a few details:
OS: Windows VISTA Home Premium (Service Pack 2)
Computer: Acer Aspire 4920
Acronis True Image Home: Version 11 (build 8,101)
OTHER DETAILS
I get the top green progress bar after starting the backup. It gets to the end, and then disappears (no bottom progress bar appears)
As soon as it starts to read the C: drive, it just reports the job is in progress in the system tray at 0% complete. Longest I've left it there is 90 minutes without and change. There are obviously no green progress bars either.
It is when I attempt to cancel the job that the entire system locks and nothing works, not mouse, not keyboard. I simply have to crash the system by holding down the power button.
That's all I know at this point :(
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for posting Colin.
I have been running successful TI Backups on this machine for 3 years now, and all have been fine up until a few days ago. I did Chkdisk as you suggested, but didn't see any report on the screen because the computer booted to the login prompt before i had chance to view any results. Chkdisk was sitting at 25% complete for ages, and the minute i left the room to pop the kettle on, it had all run through before I got back. I think that's what we call 'sod's law'.
So I ran Event Viewer once I'd logged in, and i could see some errors next to TI which were just reporting time out issues. There was other technical reporting in there too that made no sense to me.
There have been numerous Windows updates this past few days, all of which are reported as successful.
So anyway, i attempted again this morning to do yet another backup, and this time it was reported as successful. However, it was not a normal backup in as much as this:
* Top progress bar worked when 'creating active partition' (if words similar)
* Eventually, after the above progress bar reached 100%, it started again while displaying job 2 of 5
* The backup showed 0% complete throughout, and never moved from this percentage!
* The bottom green progress bar was not seen throughout the backup
* I went into the backup file after the 'backup successfull' confirmation box, and checked recent files as being backed up
So i eventually got my backup (phew!), but the True Image SW was not going through it's normal motions along the way. I'll do another backup tomorrow and see what comes of it, but for now I'm just happy to have the system backed up (assuming all is as it seems!)
Cheers
Andy
