Moving the OSS boot partition

Thread needs solution

I currently have a well functioning OSS system with four Windows XP, and one Vista system. I have also taken the advice that I saw a couple of years ago to set aside a partition that is reserved for OSS alone. BTW, I am using DD v10.

I have come to a situation where I want to add another system, and at the same time I want to clean up some sloppiness I created as a "beginner". The portion of the disc I am referring to follows:

There are the multiple operating systems in several partitions, and the final one is -

"final XP" .......This op system partition is followed by
Unused-1 ......1.5GB partition not currently used
"Bootstuff" ....2GB reserved for the Acronis OSS booting
Unused-2 ......2GB partition
Unused-3 ......1.5GB partition

What I intend to do is to delete "Unused-1". Then I want to expand "Bootstuff" into that empty space so that it follows immediately after "Final XP". I then want to reduce its size to 500k [from the other end] to minimize the wasted space, but still adjacent to "Final XP".   I will then delete "Unused-2" and "Unused-3" merge all the remaining space into a single partition.

Now...
The various Windows XP systems and Vista required that I supply the proper partition number and "correct" the partition offset when I install the image. I have never moved "Bootstuff". Does Acronis OSS have any particular needs that I should take into account? Since I am expanding it into the freshly deleted "Unused-1" and then shrinking it from the other end, the partition number of "Bootstuff" should not change, but the partition offset will be changed.   Anything else I need to be aware of?  Does OSS need me to tell it about the new partition offset, and do I need to edit the partition table the way I do for Windows XP?

Thanx
dc

BTW, is the a way in Disk Director to identify the partition numbers directly? I have been going through a trial and error method for each instal that I have done in the past.

Did you have a look at http://www.themudcrab.com/acronis_oss_vistamanual.php yet?

I would save a copy of your working BOOTWIZ.OSS file and compare with what OSS comes up.
My guess is, that OSS will detect the parameters right and in case something went wrong you can
edit the changed partition parameters in the now working file.

But I'm no expert, having the OSS blues myself right now...

I think you would just need to reactivate OSS after moving the partition. If that failed, reinstall OSS and select the OSS partition (Custom install). Make sure your DD CD includes the OSS programs before you begin.

I assume you mean 500MB and not 500K for the smaller partition size.

The partition "id" values used by OSS are random. The B gave the link to the instructions for adding manual entries. This may also help you: Understanding the BOOTWIZ.OSS File
