No such script problem

Thread needs solution

Hi, I've recently removed all my backup tasks and re-created them. But now I'm gettig "No such script (and then a GUID)" emails for what seems to be each deleted task. I already followed the steps from the KB: downloaded schedmgr and delete all offending tasks. I've done this three days in a row; after I've deleted them the "get list" indeed doesn't show those tasks anymore, but the next day they are back again, so I'm done with that and need a better solution.

Anyone have a solid solution for this. My mailbox is floaded with these no such script mails and, rather then create a rule to forward them to my garbage bin, I would like Acronis to behave well....

Thanks,
Rick

Hello Rick,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for posting. I will certainly help you with resolving this issue.

The most probable cause for this issue is that the script files somehow get corrupted or are not unregistered properly when you deleted all the offending tasks. I would recommend the following more permanent solution.

1. Please navigate to the following folder, depending on your OS and delete all the script files from there:

    * Windows XP: Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts
    * Windows Vista, Windows 7: ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts

2. Then, launch the schdmgr.exe application again and delete all the tasks the same way you have done before.

3. After that, make sure that you have no scheduled tasks in the program.

4. Re-create the scheduled tasks and check if the issue persists.

If it does, please collect the AcronisInfo report and contact our Support team so that we can resolve this problem for you.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hi Anton.

So I did this yesterday; delete those scripts from the folder you mentioned. Executed task zap in the schedmngr. A task list afterwards indeed showed all empty. And then I deleted all backuptasks and recreated them.

And today I got the "no such scripts" mails again. So I collected the acronis info report as described and wanted to contact support. Turns out I need to buy a support incident?? That goes against everything I believe in because this is clearly a bug in the acronis software and not some sort of user mistake. It is also something that's not likely to happen very often (it's the first time for me) and even less likely within the 30 days that Acronis does provide free support.

Rick,
Look again at the scripts folder and write down the first few numbers of the task Id's. Also note the time last used.
You should only have the new ones you just created.

Click again on the Schedmgr.exe program and do a command
Get List
Is there any listed which shouold not be there? If yes, then delete the individual unwanted task.
If the unwanted task is 1-25, then command is
task 1-25
task delete

On the link Anton provided, there is also a new scheduler which can be downloaded and installed.

Hi GroverH, thanks for replying.

Actually what you just wrote down is what I did in he very beginning (except for going to the scripts folder and installing a new scheduler).

The scripts are last used today, which is correct because the tasks were executed today. There are 6 other guids in the task list of the schedmngr, which I have deleted several times seperately already before starting this thread. Like a bad dream, they all come back the next day (probably better put "the next boot", but I only boot once a day....). So, somewhere those nasty guids are being stored and read into the scheduler again. Of course, their scripts are nowhere to be found, which explains the error. The trick now is to find where those scripts are being stored.

Just so you know; I deleted all tasks again yesterday (6 in total), but have only 6 "phantom tasks" in the schedmngr; the same six as before, judging by their guids, so this is not a reccurring error; the "phantom tasks" got only partly deleted once, a few days ago (if not, I would now have 12 "phantom tasks"). The tasks I delted yesterday were cleaned up afer ok; they do NOT sem to hover somewhere in the schedmngr still...

Thanks,
Rick

When you run the Get List command, you should find all the valid ones as well as those those that are not good.

Any time you delete the bad one, I would also afterwards empty the temp file associated with TI which is
User\LocalSettings\temp

Here a couple places to look for the tasks--both good and bad.
In the registry links below, there are several different listings in the same area so you have to look at them all associated with Acronis.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Acronis\ True Image Home\

[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-854245398-842925246-839522115-1003\Software\Acronis\ True Image Home\

This is from my XP Pro sp3

Hi GroverH, sorry for te late reply... I haven't been able to dao anything about this until today.

The temp folder you're referring to and the registry keys are user specific. I doubt that the tasks are stored under a specific user account; that's probably stored in local machine or some other location common to all users. After all; it's a service that also runs without a user that has logged in.

I did check those keys though; nothing task related found. There's also a Acronis key in the local machine registry hive, but I couldn't find any task info there either. THere IS one key that looks "promising" in there; "scheduler". But that throws me an error, "Access denied", when I try to peek into it, even after stopping the acronis services and resident programs (3 that I could find in total).

I've also had total commander search my harddisk for file names with a guid in it that turns up as "no such script" and a second run to search for files that had such a guid in its contents... nothing. It would really help if someone at Acronis could tell me where that task info is being stored, so I can get rid of those "phantom" tasks. Somewhere it is stored, but I can't find it.... a little help on that please Acronis? It's not like I'm a dummy at computers and have done, or am doing, anything wrong. And it also can't be very hard to tell me where to find the task info so can go banging around in there.....
