Not happy with Home 11! Edit Authentication Settings and Single Version scheme.
I'm been an Acronis Home user for many years. Up until the 2011 version it worked great. 2011 is a train wreck.
First. No matter what I do, when I try to connect to my NAS server, authentication fails even though I enter the proper credentials. I see no option to edit the actual path like instead of the UNC that is there by default. There is no way to enter the \\IP address\username path as there was in 2010. I also noticed there are several topics for this issue and to date, Acronis support and I use that term lightly, is nowhere to be found.
2nd. The Single Version scheme is great except it appears to be setup as the tail wagging the dog. It creates the backup first, then deletes the old one. That's great if you have a lot of space but if one of the backups is to a 300 GB drive, as mine is, it run out of space and fails. Again, I did not have this problem with 2010.
On a side note, when I go to create a new 'file' backup. About half the time, no drives or anything shows up. The screen is blank. Other times, the drives show up. I guess it's a mood thing.
Finally, looking through support, it appears greed has taken over common sense in the way of support. Support should not COST users when the issue is related to a software flaw!
I will be going back to 2010. Then looking for a new backup solution and drop Acronis all together. I don't mind flaws and troubleshooting problems but what I DO mind is Acronis's lack of attention to this issue and lack of free support in cases like this. That is unacceptable.
Caveat: I've been in the IT business for 13 years and know my way around computers.
