TI2020 and WD Cloud Home - Problems

Thread needs solution

Hello,

i recently got a WD Cloud Home with 4 TB for myself and my family. I have installed WD Discovery and and get a mapped Z Drive from this software.

I want to backup my system drive and a folder with my personal files with TI2020 and i want to use the incremental savin feature. I got some problems with TI and WD Cloud Home:

1.) WD Discovery maps the Cloud Home to the Z Drive, but i cant choose this drive within TI2020.

2.) When i map the Cloud Home manually then i can choose the network drive in the folder view of TI but when i want to start the backup, then it wont start.

3.) I wanted to use TI in the special WD Edition but when i want to use it with the Cloud Home the version wont recognize the Cloud Home and requests a WD drive to be connected to my pc.

Does anyone else similar problems with it and maybe help me? :)

Lars, welcome to these public User Forums.

See KB 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products which applies to all OEM versions of ATI supplied with hardware purchases.

All OEM versions of ATI have limitations in their usage requiring that a disk drive of the OEM make be directly attached to the PC, either installed internally or else connected by USB.

I think my post was misleading: At this moment i am using a normal ATI 2020 version which i bought at Amazon, it was a license for 3 devices. Shouldnt it work with that kind of license?

Lars, if you have the full ATI 2020 version, then yes, it should be fine with all drives you have.

With network drives, I find it better to select the destination drive by using either the \\drive_name identifier or else the \\ip_address for the network drive.

ATI doesn't normally work with mapped network drives by drive letter.

Thank you, Steve. I will try again.

One further question: When i map the Cloud Home manually with the IP or the UNC Path then i get the root of the WD Cloud. But when i use the WD Discovery tool i will get something like a home folder, which i cant see when i manually map the WDCH (WD Cloud Home).

Any idea how to get it to work so that i can work in the same folder (both ways)?

Lars, I don't have a network drive such as your WD Cloud Home - my own WD drives tend to be fairly ancient devices with limited usage.  My main NAS is a Synology which works fine for me.

I suspect that the folder access is going to be a configuration issue, and in particular, one where access credentials need to be used.  ATI doesn't seem to like using Public folders if I remember correctly!  I only use secured folders for my own backups.

When I create a new backup to my WD MyBookLive network box, the first prompt is for my admin access credentials, after which I can see and choose any of the folders hosted on the box.

Lars,

The WD Home Cloud devices are designed to be accessed by either android, iOS, or Web browser.  Users can be invited via an email address giving users access to specific folders/files.

During setup of the device you should have setup an Admin user and password.  You would need to access via UNC path this Admin account to gain access to the folder you wish to access.  Basically you need to create a Network Location in Explorer in This PC which creates a shortcut to the network share/folder.  You can then use ATI to backup to that shortcut.  I do this all the time and it works great.

When creating a network location follow this example for path \\devicename\sharename.  If you input the \\devicename and wait a bit, Explorer should locate the device and then begin to prompt you with suggested shares.

Thank you, i got it to work yesterday. It was a bite strange, because i was sure that i tried to use it with the UNC Path, but i didnt work. Yesterday i tried to connect to it with the IP Adress and it worked. In my Fritzbox i gave the WD Cloud a fixed IP Adress, so that it will work in the future too.

One thing that bothers me a bit, is that i have so little control over the WD Cloud device. On the other hand it is nice, that i can backup my Phones easily on it too.

Glad to hear it is working now.  Always best to assign an IP to devices like the My Cloud.

Some Feedback from me: The network access from that windows pc was somehow screwed. I could create a network drive with the direct path to a specific folder, but i couldnt "search" within from that point on forward.

I think the installed Antivir has screwed up something. But now i can do everything i wanted and dont need the WD discovery tool anymore. Now Antivir is gone, i can work again without that tool destroying everything...i cant work like that. :D

One thing is bothering me, is that i cant
