How do I restore a backup to identical hardware

Thread needs solution

I wish this were easier. Older version of ATI had restore right there in the main menu, but no longer. I have read all about the Universal Restore program and watched the video on its use, but everywhere in the info it says it's for DISsimilar hardware. I want to restore my backup file to identical hardware, but I can find no information on that.

Here's the story ...

I have a Windows 10 system. Several files on my C: drive have been damaged but I don't know how to find them nor do I know the entirety of the damage. I have a perfect backup file made just a few days ago. My system is still bootable and most things work. I am typing on it now. I just want to replace the entire contents of my C: drive with the contents of my backup. It should be easy, but it's not obvious to me.

Can someone please just walk me through the steps?

Thank you ...

Lanny, welcome to these public User Forums.

For any restore of your main Windows OS partition, the recommendation is to boot your PC from the Acronis Rescue Media to perform this type of action.

See KB 56610: Acronis True Image 2016: Creating Bootable Media - for details of the options for creating WinPE media.

KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media

When doing the restore of your backup, this needs to be done as a Disk & Partition restore and at the top Disk selection level.

Please see forum topic: [How to] recover an entire disk backup - and in particular the attached PDF document which shows a step-by-step tutorial for doing this type of recovery / restore.
