'Failed to consolidate backups'

Thread needs solution

My scheduled backup log always ends with 'Failed to consolidate backups'. The emailed report tells me that backup was successful.
Presuming that it does not matter for the purposes of recovery, it is still making me uncomfortable.
Can anyone suggest a cause/fix for this?

David,

Try to validate your backup and see if it works. If it validates, you have an added level of confidence you can restore from it, but you will never know until you actually try to restore. You could try to a spare disk or to a virtual machine.

The consolidation process typically creates temporary files until it is done, so there is a chance that your backup is not currupted by a failed consolidation, but it might have gotten corrupted prior to the consolidation attempt.

I personally avoid consolidation. I prefer having a backup scheme that does a full backup often enough that the last full backup is never tool old for me to restore to.
