Unable to install ATIH2011

Thread needs solution

Have been using Acronis since 2007. The one time I desperately needed it (hard disk died), it rather let me down. Since then, have read a fair bit about the various incarnations of the program. Although I can undertake all the procedures for getting the correct info on my current problem to the correct people, am not at all impressed with the jumping through hoops.

At present, all Acronis products have been as wiped from my machine as it is possible using the appropriate Acronis removal tools. A registry search with JV16 Power Tools shows only the type of Acronis entries shown below. When trying to install ATIH2011, I get a message that a version is already installed. Clicking the “show log” button gets nowhere. Have read a post from a person who had the same problem. Have read the posts on which services must be running at install, etc.

The entries that JV16 Power Tools throws up are along the lines of [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_TIFSFILTER\0000\] "DeviceDesc"="Acronis True Image FS Filter". I know how to remove the entries and feel it should be safe to do so. However, I can’t risk wasting much more time on this. My questions:
1. Is removing these entries (6 in all) safe?
2. Is it likely to solve the installation problem?

I would be very happy and grateful to receive any help, advice, tales of past experience, etc. I feel that my current problem is related to a previous update not being “clean” and resulting in there being a conflict between an Acronis that was/is now regarded as having been installed for current user only.

Have you made a backup of th e disk that has, as all harddisk eventually do, died? Have you made an ATI bootCD? If you answered yes to both quetions, then boot u with the bootCD and resotre the backup to a new harddisk that you install in place of the one that died.

If you answered no, then you've put yourself in a bit of a pickle. No bootCD: If you can install ATI on another machine you can make a a bootCd and then you're all set to restore. No backup: if you have no backup, then you can't recover from a backup. you're only chance is if the harddisk did not really die but merely had some kind of software corruption that made it unworkable. If you can figure out wat that corruption is, then you might be able to reverse it. It would be much easier to jus restore from a good backup. Alas.

Thanks for your attention.

My problem is not restoring an image because of the hard disk crash. That was eventually resolved - but not by Acronis. Images that had been valdated by ATIH2011 could not be read and I think we had to go back to an image from the version before that. That was some months ago (I think) and I don't remember details (without looking them up).

My problem is now that, after removing Acronis, I cannot reinstall the product. I have now paid for incident support, submitted all the records I've read about on these forums and in the KB and am waiting for a response. Unfortunately, other posts indicate this may take time.

Am generally not at all impressed with a number of things about Acrons. Have been using software for yonks and never had a problem such as this before.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. However, at this point, I would make a backup using whatever -- even if only a registry backup (save to reg file) or a Win Sys Restore point, and then do the manual scrubbing for any entries with

trueimage

You can then reboot and run ccleaner (or jv16, which costs) or other minimalist/maximum safety mode registry cleaner, which should remove orphaned lines.

Once the registry is cleaned, At that point you should be able to install ati.

It's possible that it's not leftover ATI detritus that is prevent an install but a bug in ati's installer or an incompatibility with something on your machine.

Yes, the msi log I sent to Acronis raised the possibility that it may be a bug in the installer. That's why I've gone for incident support. Like all of us, I have work to do and can't spend too much time on such things. Still no response from Acronis. I can do all the things you suggest but am loathe to devote more time to something that, on my computer, patently has problems. My present box is over 8 years old, has been kept clean and still functions sweetly. "Problems" with, amongst other software, Kapsersky and Outpost have been overcome without resort to paid support. JV16 has proved its worth over the years and done sterling service. Wish I could say the same about Acronis. There may well be an incompatibility (e.g. with the latest updates from MS) but sorting through the KB and forum here is not a quick way of finding solutions (hence the direct approach for forum help).

I shall get back with the solution from Acronis. They have all the "log" files requested at various points on the site.

Many thanks, for your replies. I would normally go the route you suggest above, but long hours and reluctance to currently risk anything on my box preclude such attempts for the tme being.
