Easy DVD Recovery

Thread needs solution

Dear Acronis users.

I have a question.

Today we have bought a Acronis True Image Home 11. What we would like to do is make a image of the total installation of windows 7 on DVD's.

I have done this before "years ago" with Norton Ghost. That was useful for my father, if the computer have a virus he only need to enter the disks and the recovery starts.

They have told me that this is possible with Acronis?

The most important thing is that my father in a simple way can start the recovery with the disks.

PLease help guys! i need to deliver the computer tomorrow.

Steven,

I would really caution against using DVD's, if the image is more than 3 DVD's in size there is going to be a LOT of DVD swapping.

What might be useful for you though, is assuming you are only thinking about recovery froma virus or OS corruption, then why not use the Secure Zone (SZ) and activate the Acronis Start Up Manager (ASRM).

This would just entail your father hitting the F11 key at boot time and then he can select the master image and restore the PC.

With the DVD's you can make an image to a DVD that makes one of them bootable and has the recovery environment on it, but if the hard drive has space, I think the ASZ route would be better for your scenario. You should still make a rescue CD though, just as as a backup for being able to start TIH if necessary.

Thanks,

Where can i find more information about the Secure Zone and the Start Up Manager.

Steven,

There is information in the TIH help manual or from the user guide download from.

I would also suggest making a master copy of the drive to either DVD or preferably a flash or hard drive which you keep, just in case the hard drive in your father's PC dies, as obviously the SZ won't be accessible.

Hey Colin, Yes thats what i would like to do! Making a master copy to DVD. You have for me a page number? of the Manual?

Steven,

Making an image to DVD is exactly the same as making one to a hard drive, just select the DVD drive and, under the task setup include bootable components (if you want to). However, I feel bad about mentioning it above, as I really advise against making DVD images, they are OK to make, but are a lot of work when restoring an image and aren't as flexible as an actual drive and in fact can have you thumping the table in frustration.

I really do advise for the purpuse that you mention, making an SZ or on your fathers' computer, and storing an image there. Not only do I think this will be easier for him to deal with, it also gives you the opportunity should you wish to either update the image or make extra ones to store there. I would also make an image of the drive that you yourself keep somewhere, just incase as I mentioned in my previous post the harddrive dies one day, in which case it will take the image(s) with it.
