Try to recover old *tib file on new computer

Thread needs solution

Hello,

on my old computer I made a backup of some folders to my NAS in my network. It always works fine.

Now I want to recover one of them on my new computer. The file is not really old, it's from 27.August 2021.

I left-clicked in windows explorer to validate the file - validation was fine.

Then I double-clicked it to open it.

Then I see a structure that is not the structure I had on my old computer: C:\users\Computername.

But the original folder structure was on a total different path.

(Backup goes from partition on local computer to my NAS)

In windows explorer the last folder is shown as empty... but the tib file has 15,5 GB!

I am really stuck now.. how can I recover this folder?
Any ideas? What do I do wrong?

Thanks in advance

Oliver

When viewing a backup in Explorer (or any other file manager) to see "everything" included in backups you have to change the system settings to make hidden files shown. In Windows 10 - you do this using File Explorer Options - just do a search using that term. This may explain what you are seeing.

You need to be careful when recovering files from your "C:\users\Computername" directory, as that path may include files that if copied to the same location on the new system could cause havoc. When doing the copying make sure that you have not selected to retain file permissions, because the file permissions will be different on the new computer.

I would copy any files to a new directory just to be on the safe side. Many users store their files on a separate partition - I have done so for the best part of 20 years.
