Website only recovers last cloud backup

Thread needs solution

If I backup to the cloud, from the app I can recover previous dates and see the files in each backup. From the website, I can only recover the last version. Information on the size of the backup and files within it isn't available.

Yesterday, I tried downloading my Outlook data files backed up on my desktop computer to my new laptop computer. On my laptop, I logged into my Acronis website and opened the Outlook cloud backup. My only option is to download the last version. When I opened the downloaded Zip file, it only had the archive.pst and not the outlook.pst file. I found that the daily backup of my desktop had failed. Using the app, I could download earlier versions but using the web I was out of luck.

This is a major problem if my hard disk crashes or something else happens to my computer. If there's a problem with the last backup, I cannot recover. If I want an earlier version, I can't get it either.

Acronis needs to have a list of backup dates on the website just as they do on the app so I can select the version I want to restore.

Please confirm how you are backing up Outlook files. Are you doing so using Microsoft 365 backup or are you backing up using a files and folders backup. With the former I am presented with a list of backups going back many months.

Did you have an archive.pst on the machine before it crashed? If not could it be that archive.pst is what you are looking for. Please be aware that with recent versions of Outlook you cannot "import" *.ost files into a new configuration, only *.pst. The former are used for IMAP and Exchange Server email; only POP email is save in *.pst.

I'm backing up Outlook's data files from the Outlook folder. Attached are screenshots of restoring the files using the Acronis app and using the web. You will see that the app has versions available in a dropdown list and shows the files in the version. I have 20 versions. This can be set using Options and the Advanced tab.

If I use the web for restoring, there isn't any version list nor is there any information on the files. All I can do is check the box and download the zip file.

I keep local full backups (images) of my drive on USB drives. I keep daily for 3 weeks, weekly for 3 months, monthly for 6 months, and every 6 months for around 5 years.

I've had my drive crash over the years. When that happens, I replaced the drive, restored the image, and am back running without issue. More frequently I've had to restore an older version of a file.

If all you have is a cloud backup, your drive crashes, and your last backup is defective, you lose everything. What if your drive crashes from malware? Will you restore the malware?

Multiple versions on physical drives are much safer.

Ray, thanks for the additional information. I am still uncertain if you are using a Files + Folders, or  Disks + Partitions or Whole PC backup to the cloud.

Definitely something odd going on. I just checked for Disk backup to the Cloud. If you select the most recent backup from the list you only see the files in that backup, there is no drop down list to move to an earlier backup. You have to navigate back to the list of backups, and select the one you want. I am sure it has not always worked that way, but as always I could be wrong.

In my case this is a (partial) list of my weekly backups

and this is the what I get when I go to the Outlook folder in my most recent backup (number 27):

This is not a user friendly. The backups are there but navigation is tedious. The latest version sort does nothing as everything has the same date.

My backups are disk, folder, files. Options are Schedule is Daily at 6 AM, Advanced is Store no more than 20 recent versions and Delete versions older than 6 months (which won't occur). On the web, when I open Backups I see my 3 cloud tasks. See attached screenshot. All 3 are created with disk, folder, files.

When I select the RAY-PC3 Outlook I get the screenshots I attached 3/1 (600035-318908, 09, 10). I do not get a list with checkboxes as you show of VIDEOEDITNG C Cloud Weekly with folders Backup #27, Backup #26, etc. My guess, based on your irregular dates, is that you are creating individual one-time backups rather than a recurring backup like I do.

On the web, I discovered that by clicking repeatedly the folder icon, I could drill down and see my two files. This is not obvious. (In the app, it automatically opens a two-pane view with the tree in the left pane and files in the right.)

My backups are a regular weekly backup; there can be some irregularity in the dates due to the PC not being on when the backup is scheduled. All cloud backup task operate as incremental backups (other than replicas).

I am confused by your statement "My backups are disk, folder, files. " A backup is either:

  1. whole computer - My PC
  2. Disks & Partitions
  3. Files and Folders

The icons shown in you most recent screen shot indicate that you are doing a files and folders backup; they use a different architecture to other backups.

I am seeing the same behavior with my Files and Folders Acronis Cloud backups when accessed by the Online Dashboard. I can access all backups, not just the most recent, using the Application itself, and presumably the recovery media.

Definitely something seriously wrong here.
