Its a hard way to clone a disk

Thread needs solution

Here is my story:

My object was to upgrade from my current 2.5" 160GB Seagate HD to 2.5" 500GB WD Scorpio Blue HD in my notebook.

My first thought was to use the "Clone Disk" feature. Btw, I am using TI 2009. The wizards start I click through the options and after the Proceed button it just closes and nothing happens. Ok, maybe Vista is interrupting so I created a bootable Rescue Disc. After the reboot the selection screen apears, I choose TI (Full) and a loading image on the top left corner apears. Then its says locking drive C:.....D. ...zack restart. So I cant access TI on via bootdisk. I also tried  the Linux kernel command line" prompt, with quiet acpi=off noapic ,but still no luck.

Next idea was to clone via image and restore it to the new drive. I created an image from my whole disk, I clicked restore selected the .tib file, right mouse button "Restore". .....zack crash ----> TI does not work anymore.

So I cant use TI 2009 at all.

My next idea was to clone my disk via Acronis Migrate Easy 7. I created a bootable rescue disk again. (To avoid interruptions from Vista) and rebooted. This time I got into graphical interface and I went through the Clone wizard. After 2 hours it said completed and I turned the pc off. I changed the HDs and started. I had to use the Vista Repair DVD because something was missing during the boot, but this was just a small issue.

Finally everything works and my new HD works fine. Any ideas why I had these problems with TI 2009!?

The TI2009 Linux environment probably doesn't support your hardware configuration properly. Even if you start a process in Windows that requires access to the active partition the PC will reboot into the Linux recovery environment. That's likely what happened in your first attempt and when the Linux was put into operation it didn't work. The second time you actually started with it - the TI rescue CD.

The Migrate Easy 7 has a different implementation and was much happier.

You may have needed to do a repair because the disk had been formatted with Vista. It uses a 2048 byte offeset instead of the previous 64 byte offset that XP and older OSes used.

Try the Acronis Live Chat and they may provide you with a .iso file you can burn to CD which will give you an operating rescue environment. Right now TI is somewhat useless to you. Other option is to build a VistaPE or BartPE CD.

Hello Racer,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

Please download ISO image from your account under Registered Products and create Acronis bootable disc using third-party software. ISO image is based on different loader which has more embedded drivers, it will certainly solve the issue you experience. You will need with bootable CD in case real disaster happen and you will have to restore your system from the image. So please check whether it’s loaded without any issues and can successfully detect all drives.

If you can’t download ISO image from your account please send me the serial number for Acronis True Image Home 2009 via PM and I will provide you the download link.

Hi Dmitry,

I am a registered owner of Migrate Easy 7 and would like to download the ISO image to make an Acronis bootable disk. Could you point me in the right direction to download this file?

Thanks, Michael
