Acronis True Image Where to Post

Thread needs solution

I am a registered user of Acronis True Image Home, updated to the latest version.  I am registered for two computers, my own and my wife’s, both running the latest version of Windows.  Both our machines use 64 bit operating systems.  We are looking for a solution to use either our current version of Acronis, or another, more appropriate version of an Acronis product to back up both our pcs on an as needed basis onto two standalone external hard drives which are dedicated to each of our computers for backup purposes only.

We are looking for a method to back up our current pcs each time we run a backup without the use of the previous backup.  We want to create an entire backup of each computer without regard to any previous backups.  This means one full back up on each computer, from scratch, for each user.  I have used this procedure before with great success, but now I am running into difficulties.  Acronis is now getting confused about where to back up, looking for a previous file, naming its own backup file, and running one backup after another without ending after completing a backup on a new, 7 TB thumb drive.

I have read the documentation on the product and its use, but I do not know what causes my particular problem of one complete backup at a time on a dedicated backup external hard drive.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Some comments:

If you are using ATI 2020, 2021 or ACPHO (2022, 2023) and creating Disk backups, then these use .TIBX files which in turn use Metadata that links the files created by the backup task(s).

With TIBX files, the only that you can create totally independent Full backup files (that are not linked by Metadata to other previous or future files) is to create a new Backup task each time, and not continue an existing backup task.

One thing that causes Acronis to look for previous backup files is if those missing files have been deleted using Explorer or any method outside of the options provided by Acronis.  The reason for this is simply because Explorer / other methods do not update the associated Metadata or Acronis database information, hence it complains that files / versions cannot be found!

If you do need to delete unwanted files, then you should either use the Automatic Cleanup settings for the task, or else use the Clean up versions tool.
