How is decryption handled?

Thread needs solution

Hi folks,

I'm exploring various backup solutions, including Acronis for home office use. This blog article explains how Acronis uses client-side encryption to send already-encrypted data to the cloud. However, it's a bit unclear how does the decryption (during restore) work in this case - does my encryption password ever get sent to Acronis servers, or does all decryption happen only on my local machine?

I'm asking because some competitor products (like Backblaze) seem to require sending the passphrase to their servers, thus defeating the purpose of client-side encryption, even though they claim the passphrase is never logged etc.

Thanks

I think this is answered on this thread: Offline decryption

Thanks for your response - I've seen (and posted in) that thread, but unfortunately it leaves the question hanging whether this is really true or not (it appears we don't know, without an official KB/response from Acronis..)
