File System Error

Thread solved

Acronis Cyber Protect is saying there is a file system error on a drive I want to back up (see attached photo). I have zero difficulty accessing anything on that drive any other way.  I have run CHKDSK /f and it found no errors see attached photo below

Sadly this product will be useless to me if I can not fix this problem as that is the most important drive for me to backup.

I suggest also running seatools a short generic and make sure it is good. Also a self test.

Douglas, have you confirmed that the file system error is referring to your source drive and not to the destination?  The log for the backup task should give a disk number, i.e. disk 1, 2 etc but be aware that Acronis numbers differently to Windows!

Windows Disk 0 = Acronis Disk 1 etc.

Windows disk management will show the Windows disk numbering.

Download a copy of the MVP Assistant log viewer tool and use this to look at the logs to see if they show any issues during the operation process?

The latest version of the new log viewer tool is at the link below.
New MVP Assistant Version 2.7.4 Available

If you have Disks & Partitions backups created on ATI 2020 or later using .tibx files, then look in the Backup Worker logs.

If you have Files & Folders backups using .tib files (or Disk backups from earlier versions using .tib files) or using Cloning then look in the Demon logs.

Other logs are shown by the MVP Assistant under the 'Active Logs' heading of the Log Viewer page of the Assistant, i.e. Media Builder.

The Schedule2 log contains information related to scheduled task but is one of the more difficult logs to read / work through.

The log files should be zipped to preserve their original file names if sharing in the forums and would need to be less than 3MB in size, otherwise you would need to share the zip file via a Cloud share service such as OneDrive, Dropbox etc.

The other method to confirm which disk is giving the error is as below:

Create an Acronis system report zip file then extract the disks.txt (disk report) from the zip archive and use the File > Upload option to attach it to this forum topic.  This should help identify what the file system error is and lead to how to resolve it.

KB 58820: Acronis True Image: Collecting System Report

KB 1638: Acronis Disk Report

Hello,

As mentioned by Steve, the source and the destination should be checked with CHKDSK.

You could also try the following steps:

  • Run the SFC tool: https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/topic/use-the-system-file-checker-t…

  • Ensure that the destination where you're storing the backup is accessible and not experiencing issues. It should be a healthy and functional storage location.

  • Ensure that you have sufficient free space on the source drive and the destination drive where you're storing the backup. A lack of space can cause backup failures.

  • Check the Disk report. If the letter E appears there, it means there are issues with that specific disk, and you should consider a replacement if it can't be fixed: https://kb.acronis.com/content/1638

Best regards.

Thanks for everyone's help.  Even though every test I ran showed no error I was still getting a file system error for my F drive when I opened Acronis. I installed an Acronis update and now I'm not getting that error.  Very odd but I'm glad it's gone
