Can't backup NAS files (files or folders can't be found)

Thread solved

This drives me mad. Most of my important files are saved on a Synology DS218+ NAS. I used to make a daily backup to another Synology NAS.
In the newest version of Acronis Cyber Protect home it is no longer possible to make a backup of the NAS files. The files on my hard drives can be backed up without any problem.
A backup of the NAS files always results in an error saying something like "the folders of files you want to backup can't be found".
This is a weird error because I can succesfully establish a connection to my NAS in Acronis. A connection test is always succesful. I can see and select files and folders on my NAS in Acronis.
To exclude a permission problem I changed the permissions on my NAS and gave everyone full access to all files.
I submitted a ticket weeks ago but only received a general answer suggesting to delete and recreate the backup task. This I already tried several times. Even resetting Windows and my NAS didn't help.
My NAS is running DSM 7.2. I never had similar problems with earlier versions.

Geert, it is possible that KB 67536: Acronis Cyber Protect, Acronis Cyber Backup: Backup fails with "Windows error: (0x80070544) The validation information class requested was invalid" may apply to your issue here and that you may need to adopt the approach shown in the document as below:

The username should be specified in hostname\username format, i.e. have target server name prefix. E.g if NAS name is BackupStorage and your username on that NAS is backupadmin, use Backupstorage\backupadmin as the username.

Hello Geert!

Thanks for contacting.

I have updated the ticket.

You can expect a reply from our support as soon as possible.

Best regards.

Thanks Steve, you're my hero.

Adding the hostname to the credentials did the trick. I also had to change the source from NAS to Files and Folders.

Hi, I just added a Synology DS224+ and I am having the same issues.  I see the details above but I am not quite familiar enough with this new NAS, such that I do not understand where the hostname\username needs to be used/added??

I see above the info from Geert above, in which the entire backup scheme has to be modified to not use NAS as a target, but rather use file and folders as the target?  I'm a bit confused about this as well.

I have put in a ticket last week and still haven't heard back from anyone.  I updated it yesterday as well.

I have read some new info from Acronis from September 2023 in which they have launched a new agent for Synology for their 7.x DSM.  Is this something I should use or need to use?  In lieu of the hostname\username approach?

72876: Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud Agent for Synology: Synology DSM 7.x support

There is some high-level info about this agent but I'm not quite following it.  Will this eliminate the need for the temporary hostname\username?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Hello!

The agent is only available for MSP and corporate products. Consumer products as Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office have the regular Windows and Mac agent.

As far as I can see, there are no plans to integrate that feature for the consumer products.

Thanks.

DaveD,

You likely need to setup Accounts & Privileges in the DSM 7.2 configuration to get this working. You can start Here to configure the DSM on your NAS.
